The best fairy tales have as many — if not even more — lessons for adults as they do for kids. “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen,” directed by former Monty Pythonite Terry Gilliam, is a great example of this.

Mining a rarely tapped vein of German fantasy lore, the movie brings to life its unlikely hero in the form of a middle-aged, at times elderly, German nobleman. Munchausen wanders the world — and occasionally places above and below — seeking outrageous adventures with his marvelous companions: Albrecht, the strongest man alive; Berthold, the fastest man alive; Adolphus, who has amazing vision; and Gustavus, who has incredible hearing and powerful lungs.
In the movie, an elderly Munchausen disrupts a theatrical production of his adventures in a 17th century city under seige by invading Turks. Munchausen’s efforts to set the record straight are in turn disrupted by a cannon assault, and his attempt to quietly die in the theater’s ruins are interrupted by Sally Salt (Sarah Polley), a small girl with a huge heap of stubborn. Sally is possibly the only person around who believes Munchausen is real, and her belief is impetus enough for the baron to dispense with dying long enough to try and save the town.

Munchausen rides cannon balls, uses snuff to defeat a massive sea beast, dances on air, sails to the moon and generally cheats death. Most of the time. But always with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye, like any good, stalwart hero should. If you’re big on realism, pass this one by. But if you want to exercise your sense of wonder, pick up “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.” Please, believe he’s real or the town is lost.

Sometimes you despair. A new format is trust upon us – and an opportunity is presented to the movie industry to finally to do the business by their classics – and what do they do – they give us the same old dull stock and rip us off by getting us to pay more for it.
Twenty years on, Terry Gilliam’s 1989 fantasy epic is still extraordinary – inventive, funny, touching, and on a scale few movies today would even dare to go near. Unfortunately, the 2008 transfer of it to the new format is more Blur-Ray than Blu-Ray. And while it’s not awful all the way through – it’s not far off it. For large parts of the film there’s grain and blocking – the colours in some instances are better for sure – but it’s also obvious that little or no restoration has been done to the print – when like “Time Bandits” – here is a fantasy film that is crying out for a clean up – and would surely have been much more commercially viable if it had been cleaned up – and a big deal made of it (even a re-launch in the cinemas?).
The extras mimic the special edition DVD issue – reviewed elsewhere – nothing great.
When you see “Cool Hand Luke” or “Zulu” or “2001: A Space Odyssey” on BLU RAY, the clean up work is immediately apparent and evident throughout the entire film – making them an enjoyable ’spot-the-difference’ experience for the whole duration. But you know you’re in trouble with “Munchausen” the second the washed out “Columbia” logo comes up at the beginning – I’ve seen crinkled videotape look better than this. What a huge disappointment and what a disservice to a really great fantasy film. I can only think of the gobsmacking beauty of Uma Thurman as she appears in a seashell to cheer myself up…
Unfortunately this release is why Amazon reviews are necessary. Avoid this overly expensive poor reissue unless you absolutely have to own it…

Oh, there is a tale. Dreadful Kasumi and her shrimp brother are orphaned, but taken in by a local warlord. Kasumi joins the kunoichi, the lady ninjas, in order to work and protect her shrimp bother. There are some spies and intrigues, and some entirely unspectacular fight scenes. The costumes are nice, but the whole thing has a feel of being shot on digital video, and you know that this is not a high-budget production. The film is based on an erotic manga series, but I have never read that so don’t know how well it holds up. Director Hiroyuki Kawasaki normally makes anime flicks like “Mouse” and “Sakura Wars”, so this may have been his first time with live actors.
But if you are getting this, you are really getting it for the graceful Yonmi, not for the anecdote. She looks tall in her ninja costumes, and is appropriately bouncy for the genre. Being a Pink Film, the nudity is strictly T&A the three sex scenes are of the softcore variety. Not anywhere approach a astronomical film, but then you weren’t expecting that. For what it is, it does a sterling job. The girls are shapely, the situation is decent, and there are far worse entries in the genre.
The three DVD of the tale of Kasumi that I have seen each has a different actress play the role of Kasumi. Episode one and three are the better of the three, while number two is detached a magnificent narrative line the actress is noticeable not the same woman. The number three woman may not be the same woman as in number one, but she looks cessation to the same.

The tremendous director Vincent Minnelli (Gigi, American in Paris & Meet Me in St. Louis) does an outstanding job presenting us with the 50’s comedy “Designing Woman”. Lauren Bacall is shapely in the lead and with a rare comedic performance gives us a astronomical movie. Her leading man Gregory Peck also in a rare comedic role pulls it off masterfully under the direction of Minnelli.
This Warner Brothers DVD is very nicely done. The movie & color quality is outstanding and the WideScreen presentation fills the mask with the stars personalities. DVD Extras include a Trailer & behind-the-scenes mini documentary featuring the Costume Designer Helen Rose.
Summary: Original York High Society Designing Woman (Bacall – is outstanding) meets a Current York Newspaper Sports Writer (Gregory Peck – a nice change & he was enjoyable) at the Beverly Hills Hotel, California while on their respective assignments. After a shakey open, descend madly in worship and in a few days marry.
As they return to the “Astronomical Apple” the true adventure begins. The new Strange Couple now realize they both had separate lives and different committments. How they deal with the transition is proper Hollywood humor and with the philosophy of the 1950’s there must be a joyful ending after they pay their dues. A Immense movie!!

In this film, Lauren Bacall hilariously portrays the quintessential high-society, high-fashion Current Yorker. While on a chase to Beverly Hills, she meets and spontaneously marries the astounding Gregory Peck – an unassuming sports writer who has no concept exactly what he’s married into. Upon their return to Current York, Peck’s character discovers he’s married the darling of Recent York society as his wife is a eminent designer (deem Edith Head or Helen Rose) . What ensues is hilarious encounters between her society coterie and his down-home group of blue-collar writers, setting up perfectly for the witty repartee between Bacall and Peck that defines the movie. The film culminates in a fashion show-boxing rumble, once again intersecting the seemingly divergent lives of Bacall and Peck.
“Designing Woman” is a incredible movie that gives spacious opportunity for the fine Gregory Peck to exhibit off his comedic skills, however subtly. I saw this film after “Roman Holiday” and it cemented my image of Peck as a dashing and charming leading man who brings out the comedic best in his leading ladies. Both of my children are in terror whenever one of these videos begins. The DVD formats and added shriek are estimable. My son (3 yo) fell in fancy with them all over again now that my 1 yo daughter watches them! Their favorites are Baby Bach, Baby Shakespeare, Baby Van Gogh (my accepted too) and even Baby Mozart. They also both loved Baby Eistein, although my husband is petrified by it because the words do not match the pictures. I guess it’s not for concrete thinkers! The Doolittle series is slightly less clever, but cute…But WOW did they ever topple the ball with Baby Newton. Their unique affiliation with Disney was a pains! VERY different graphics (goofy computer graphics added), insensible presentation (my kids didn’t even conclude watching it) …it got archaic trusty fleet. I hope they change succor to the musty format! We also recommend Bee Quick-witted Baby Vocabulary, the First Impressions Series, and Baby Genius! All trustworthy!
We have all of these videos and my kids adore them. They are shiny and intellectual, with loads of immense images and top notch music. I like that they vary and have different themes, our common is Baby Newton. I have no concept why they purchase that one, but they impartial do.
Now, I’ve read some negative reviews on here and I must say I can eye the point that those parents are trying to earn across. But Julie Clark tells us at the raze of every video that you should discover with your child and discuss what you are seeing. This is an opportunity to interact with your child, this is not intended as an electronic babysitter (Gash Jr. is the electronic video, or didn’t you know? ) . So if musty properly they are learning videos. My two kids, former 4 and 2, indulge in the chance to exercise time with a parent and learn about colors, numbers, shapes, etc. For that purpose they are astronomical!

Kind of surprising that such a current and keen film, with a pleasant cast, clever epic and fun effects, is givin such a bad transfer. It seems to be from the archaic laser disc. The narrate is flat and shadowy and to me looks powerful like the VHS copy I had already owend. Again, a really fun arresting film, but don’t quiz normal DVD quality on this one.
Me and my brother were flipping through the TV channels, and nothing was on, I mean nothing. Anyway we got to the Movie Channel (STAR Movies) and saw what looked like the opening credits, and then sizable blue words came across the mask reading “F/X.” So we watched it, saw if it was any righteous. Let me say we were aesthetic surprised! It was gorgeous distinct that it was shot on a rude budget. That made me like it all the more! Becuase you usually net a eminent rich director and writers to keep together a worthy action/suspense movie. But those movies, sience the director has alot of money he impartial figures he’ll blow the hell out of everything. It gets attractive annoying. But that is what I worship about this movie. Sense they didn’t have a lot of money they kept the movie marvelous was the writing and directing. Dispite the name (F/X) it is not what the movie reliys on. It relies on a quick-witted space and even smarter place twists. You never know who the villian is. Plus the well mantled suspense is a plus. I cant say the biggest portion of the set, but I can sya what it starts with. This aussie dude who makes special FX for movies (hense the name) is assigned to stage an assination on a gang member (but not really destroy him, unbiased beget it perceive like he got killed with his special do tricks. But after that it unbiased takes so many turns, it makes it into a amazing whodunit. I reccomend this for anyone who enjoys a well written and directed whodunit that will retain you thinking and guesing till the last bullet is shot.

I saw this film at Film Forum in NYC and it’s criminal that it didn’t receive wider distribution. Ray Johnson lived his life as a performance section, improvising puns and jokes into everything he did. His artworks are complex zen riddles with punchlines, with collaged paper sanded like round rocks, all build together with elmer’s glue. He was the eternal prankster, and the astounding interviews characterize many “Ray stories” from the likes of his art dealer, patrons and fellow artists (including Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, Chuck End, and Christo) . Far from being someone who tried to become illustrious, he worked to avoid it, shunning publicity and pranking the art world, and mailing his work out for free to people around the world. I was one of those people.
The film is brilliantly assembled, hilarious at times, and spirited… and the Max Roach gather is a sizable bonus (complete with some footage of Max playing the drums) . If you are enthusiastic in art and savor a apt tale, this film is for you.
A consuming explore inside the Unique York art scene and the predecessor class to Warhol. I confess that I knew absolutely nothing about this artist before watching this documentary, and yet I couldn’t catch enough of it. Truly a man who lived his life as art. And his death? Simply speaking, Lady and the Tramp is my celebrated Disney film of all time! In my understanding, it is a 5 star masterpiece, and I would give it more if I could! I remember when I was unprejudiced 4 years obsolete, watching the characters Lady, Tramp, Jock, Right, and the Siamese Cats light up my eyes, as well as my TV hide, as no other movie (except maybe Pete’s Dragon or Superman) has done for me before or since. The music and songs are especially delectable, especially “Bella Notte.” And the thrilling climax (which I won’t spoil for the peope who have yet to explore it) ranks with the “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Lion King” climaxes! I remember having to wait almost a decade for Disney to re-release this classic on video so that I could replace my worn-out taped version. Now that I have it on both VHS and DVD, and both editions are in widescreen, I can delight in it for years to approach as I never view I’d be able to! Your kids will worship it, and so will anyone who’s peaceful young at heart! Choose it on DVD today! Don’t create the same mistake I did over 10 years ago! (And don’t let the lack of special features cessation you, either!)
This movie is about a purebred Cocker Spaniel, who is later named Lady, that is given to the wife of, as Lady refers to him, Jim-dear. She has 2 neighbor dog friends, Jock and Precise whom she confides in often. As she gets older, Lady’s owner is expecting a baby, in which Lady feels like she is no longer a portion of the family. She meets a mutt from the streets, Tramp, who comes by after being chased by the city dog catcher. They meet again after Lady escapes the arms of Aunt Sarah in a pet store because she is buying a muzzle to avoid Lady harming her cats. Tramp comes to her rescue to bag the muzzle off and they go for a romantic dinner at Tony’s (spaghetti no less!) . They expend some time on the streets, catch to know eachother, and near to gather they like eachother. Lady realizes that she needs to return home, she does so, and is caught by the city dog catcher, tossed into the pound where she meets Tramp’s “friends”, and is told everything about his street life. When Aunt Sarah retrieves her from the pound, she is then chained up outside to a leaky dog house. Tramp comes by to scrutinize her some time after, and she tells him she doesn’t ever want to seek him again. Shortly after, Lady notices a rat approach into the yard. It goes upstairs into the baby’s room, and Lady tries to cessation it, but is unruffled chained up. Tramp hears her barking and comes to seek what’s going on. She tells him there is a rat in the baby’s room, he goes into the house, up to the baby’s room, and fights to sustain the rat from the baby. He makes a lot of noise in doing so along with knocking over the baby’s crib. Lady gets loose, runs upstairs after Tramp, but Aunt Sarah soon shows up, calling the dog pound to retrieve Tramp, and throw Lady into a room where she cannot score to the baby. As soon as Jim-dear and his wife return from their trail that very same evening, they explore a dog pound carriage outside their house. They urge home, ask what happened, let Lady out of the room she was trapped in, and they all go after the dog pound carriage to establish Tramp (Sincere getting pain in the process by following the carriage and knocking it over to keep Tramp) . Tramp is saved, given a dog license, and a home with Lady and her family. Then they all live happily ever after!

It’s unhappy that an curious series rarely gets serious attention, even when made into a movie, like Conceal of the Phantasm. The writing is noble to the live action Batman movies, and the movie has more self-respect. We delve into Batman’s past: not his why-I-became-Batman past which everyone knows; rather, we learn why he remains Batman despite the intense personal cost. This is a spacious movie, with a colossal exclaim cast (including Effect Hamill who is unprejudiced perfect as the Joker) . The bag is astonishing, playing a tiny with the glean from the first Michael Keaton Batman movie, then proceeding along its hold course.
The movie is, of course, not for everyone. If all you want to contemplate are fists hitting the awful guys in the gut, you’ll be disappointed (or perhaps, your kids will be) . There is romance, sorrow, and introspection, in addition to the violence of Batman’s confrontation with villains. This is simply a far more thoughtful movie than one might interrogate, and though it is well-done in this regard, it may not be what you are expecting.
When I was younger, I old to brush off Batman: The Keen Series as uninteresting, and for exiguous kids. Now at the age of seventeen, I observe that I was gravely inaccurate. Batman: Cover of the Phantasm would have to be my current movie of all time. How can I even launch to count all the things I appreciate about it? It’s bewitching, interesting, witty, humorous, shaded… Needless to say, it’s head over heals over any other Batman movie I’ve ever seen before. Unlike the live-action movies, it’s not about interesting to the audience with predictable James Bond action sequences and famed actors. This movie truely does justice to the droll and to Bob Kane. Each character is portrayed perfectly, with incredible animation and unbelievable insist acting. I absolutely cherish the dim deco art style as well. And the set is one of the best I’ve seen. It really keeps you alive to. I’d recommend this movie to anyone, Batman fan or not! Definately try this one out!
