I’m not one of those Seinfeld fans who saw a spacious decline in the present as the season’s came and went. I loved the final couple of seasons fair as noteworthy as any. Only the first season, where they were collected working with the formula to accept it accurate, was a bit conventional. That said, if I was on a desert Island and could have only one season of Seinfeld to gain and examine, it would be season four. It not only had many vast episodes but it had many that would go down as classics, not only of Seinfeld, but all-time sit-com classics.

There are so many large episodes from season four but here are my favorites:

“The Wallet” & “The Ogle” this was a two-parter as Jerry’s parents approach to town so Morty can explore a wait on specialist. Morty is up in arms when he thinks his wallet is stolen in the doctor’s office. Meanwhile Unlce Leo finds a behold that Jerry threw in the trash, a gawk his parents gave him and Jerry tries to remove it relieve.

“The Bubble Boy” Jerry, Elaine, George and Susan are going up to Susan’s father’s cabin. They are asked to search for a local fan named “the bubble boy” who lives in a plastic bubble ala John Travolta in the movie. George gets there first and plays a game of Trivial Pursuit with the bubble boy and they come by into a fight. Kramer accidently burns down the cabin. One of the all-time gargantuan episodes!

“The Contest” Maybe the greatest episode ever…George is caught pleasuring himself by his mother who throws out her encourage and lands in the hospital. George, jerry, Kramer and Elaine all bet to recognize who can go the longest without doing…that…Later appearing on David On the Letterman prove, Julia Louis-Dreyfus said that the network censors would not allow them to say “masturbation”.

“The Consume” Kramer takes a relate of Elaine for her Christmas card. After she sends the describe out to everyone, including her nephew, they gawk that her nipple was exposed! Jerry’s girlfriend thinks she caught him picking her nose.

“The Visa” Kramer punches Mickey Mantle at a baseball fantasy camp, Babu’s visa expires and he is deported. Kramer’s explanation of the fight with Mantle is the highlight.

“The Outing” this would feature one of the all-time huge Seinfeld lines “Not that there is anything obnoxious with that” when a college newspaper reporter mistakenly thinks jerry and George are a cheerful couple.

“The Implant” Jerry dumps his girlfriend (Terry hatcher) when Elaine tells him that her breasts are untrue. Kramer thinks he sees Salman Rushdie the author, in a sauna and George gets into a fight at his girlfriend’s Aunt’s funeral because he ‘double-dipped’ a chip.

“The Junior Mint” Jerry can’t remember the name of his girlfriend, only that it rhymes with the word for a female body portion. Jerry and Kramer look an operation and accidently toss a junior mint into the surgical opening.

“The Smelly Car” a Valet parker leaves a strong body odor in Jerry’s car. Jerry tries everything to acquire the smell out and eventually gives the car away.

“The Pilot” George & Jerry’s point to is greenlighted to have a pilot produced and they interview prosective “kramers, Georges, and Elaines”. Elaine finds Morty’s wallet…missing since that early episode, in Jerry’s Couch.

This season really had it all. I would have to say that there really was not one abominable episode in the entire season. This group of talented actors was on their game all season and took the sitcom to incedible heights. There simply has been nothing since that has near stop to matching Seinfeld’s brilliance.

Just for the Junior Mint episode alone, but the contest to behold who can go the longest without, you know, is extraordinary. I Savor George’s mother; how I fancy seeing her in her hospital bed, berating him for yet another transgression, (What is it with you; who are you; I don’t know you any more!”) and George’s reaction to his mother’s next door neighbor-patient when she gets a spongebath is hilarious (and in another note, a young guy gets a spongebath, equally hilarious), and of course, the Swagger…IMHO, George’s parents are one of the best aspects of this fantastiuc show; I like Jerry’s parents also, his father at the doctor’s office when he is fillling out the patient information effect and gets to the STD share is a riot; he says “That’s it! They got my name and my phone number; that’s it!” And later in the room where he waits for the doctor when he thinks someone stole his wallet…well, you objective have to eye it. I was so upset when Seinfeld went off the air, but now I can seek these classics over and over and over again whenever I want and it really doesn’t secure any better than that. And the peripheral characters are so agreeable you want them to be a regular allotment of the show; e.g, the grumpy worn man Jerry volunteered to purchase care of; the Rabbi in Elaine’s building; George Steinbrenner; Tim Whatley, the unfamiliar dentist; Elaine’s roommate; and my accepted of all, Jimmy…Jimmy’s DOWN; Jimmy’s got a compound smash! Thank God for DVD!

Sequels outmoded to be about remaking the same film again and again (remember “Friday The 13th” or “Nightmare on Elm Street”? ) with minor variations so the audience gets their fix. John Carpenter, Kurt Russell and Debra Hill inverted the paradigmn reprising the best elements from “Sprint from Novel York” while introducing a heavy dose of satire aimed squarely at the Good Majority and groups of that nature. While not as memorable as that film, “Sprint from L. A.” takes perfect aim at liberal Hollywood, the conservative religious correct, sequels and skewers them all tedious on most of the time.

Snake Plissken is befriend in wretchedness. Captured again he’s establish into the service of national security against his will. It seems a draw that can detonate orbital nuclear devices has been stolen by the President’s daughter and delivered into the hands of a self styled rebel leader named Cuervo Jones (George Corraface) in what’s left of Southern California. Cuervo plans on using this intention against the United States. Plissken is sent to the island of Los Angeles to retreive the way. Yes, folks the Huge ONE finally hit and a tremendous allotment of the Los Angeles basin dropped into the ocean like a ten ton weight while the remainder floats off the sail of the United States making the perfect plot to deport people who don’t have high honest fiber or generally tick off the President for life (Cliff Robertson in a hooked performance) . Infected by a deadly designer virus that makes Ebola seem like the flu, Snake has no choice but to select the job of retrieving. Malloy (Stacy Keach stepping in for the behind Lee Van Cleef) and Brazen (the glorious Michelle Forbes gradual of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, “Homicide: Life on the Streets” and the second season of “24″) provide Snake with his only link to the outside world.

Along the intention Snake meets surfers (Peter Fonda), the Surgeon General of Beverly Hills (Bruce Campbell in a hilarious role that truly is the highlight of the movie) in pursuit of the plot. Oh and once again Snake has one of those spacious digital watches attached to his wrist to remind him his days are numbered if he doesn’t fetch the contrivance befriend in time. Filled with large cameos by Steve Buscemi (as Draw to the Stars Eddie), B-movie queen Pam Grier (as Hershe Las Palmas), Italian beauty Valerie Golino, the unhurried Paul Bartel, Issac Hayes (in a cameo) and Robert Carradine “Hasten from L.A.” fair might be Carpenter’s most undervalued film (along with the expansive satire “They Live”) .

The weakest link in the film turns out to be the uneven visual effects done by Disney’s Buena Vista Visual Effects. Some of the opticals glimpse enormous particularly the scenes where Los Angeles gets hit by the 9.6 earthquake. The sequences interesting the mini-sub and some of the helicopters search for as if they were taken from computer games. While computer graphics were unexcited developing at the time, I’m surprised that Disney’s effects house wasn’t able to near up with more convincing visuals for this sequence. Unruffled, while they aren’t what they could be they’re not the focus of the myth either and are a beautiful minor plight. Many of the best effects work quite well. The production fabricate by Lawrence G. Paull (”Blade Runner”, “Abet to the Future”, “Predator 2″) gives the film a powerful bigger gaze than the budget the film had (it cost roughly $50 million to acquire including the marketing section of the budget) . A bit of trivia about the film. Russell appears wearing the same costume he had for the first film at the beginning. Russell also made all the basketball shots seen in the climatic game himself.

Presented in its unusual widescreen format with a trailer as the only extra, this was released when Paramount was playing pick up up in releasing product for the DVD market. The image quality is exceptionally obedient with mammoth color reproduction and a nearly flawless print (particularly when compared to the remastered re-release of “Rush from Fresh York”) with a nice 5.1 sound mix.

It’s too abominable this hasn’t been reissued with extras (such as a commentary from Carpenter and Russell and one or two featurettes. Heck, there’s got to be a promo section somewhere in Paramount’s vault about this as I seem to remember one being released to promote it) because, while isn’t quite up to “Flee from Unusual York”, “Hurry from L.A.” is smooth a memorable sequel with enough satire, parody and humor laced moments to preserve fans of the new glad. Hopefully one of these days this minor Carpenter classic will gather the re-evaluation it deserves.

When I first saw this film in the theaters, I really didn’t like it. In fact, I was attractive let down! I had grown up with Elope From Current York, and to my apprehension, John Carpenter remade his beget film! I’m not kidding, REMADE it. Upright down to Snake getting shot in the leg and limping for the last half of the film. Years later I revaluated my conception. You can’t obtain a film as corny as this on accident, especially if you’re a former director like John Carpenter; It had to be done on purpose. I’ve read numerous interviews over the years and have found out two things, and I reflect these two things are the reason this film ended up the draw it did. First, John Carpenter hates sequels. He never wanted to build sequels to his films. He never wanted a sequel to Halloween(let alone six! That’s why he produced Halloween 3 which people hated so powerful, coz he was trying to purchase this series in a different direction and not retread the whole Michael Myers thing) . I also understand that both Carpenter and Kurt Russell were under alot of studio pressure to obtain this film. I don’t know what kind of favor Carpenter owed the studio, but he made this film. And my theory is that he made this film intentionally abominable to say to the studio, “There, I made the stinking sequel you wanted, don’t ask me to do it again!” I mean really, if he had wanted to manufacture a sequel to Elope From Fresh York, don’t you deem he would have struck while the iron was hot and made it at the height of the first film’s success instead of waiting 15 years? Assume about it. When I mediate this scenario, I can examine Sprint From L.A and have a pleasurable laugh thinking that John Carpenter may have played a sizable joke on the Hollywood studios. Really, there’s no diagram Carpenter included that surfing scene with the map of it being taken seriously. The film is unprejudiced blueprint too overblown, diagram too cheesy and obviously a carbon copy of the novel to be anything other than a joke. Kurt may be older now, but he’s actually detached able to play Snake Plissken like it’s 1980. The performance is large, it’s unprejudiced the film surrounding Kurt that’s droll. Try watching it again and peek what you assume.

One wonders why it took so long to snort the chronicle of the three Bielski brothers, who managed to assign the lives of 1200 Jews during the Nazi Holocaust in World War II. My personal respond is that they didn’t have anyone advance the caliber of Daniel Craig to play the share of Tuvia.

The legend opens with the Bielski brothers Tuvia (Craig) and Zus (Liev Schreiber) returning to the family farm to glimpse the Germans killed their parents. They pick up their younger brother, Asael (Jamie Bell) hiding from the slaughter in a cellar.

They determine to go to the forest to cloak out. It’s initially pure happenstance that they hurry into other refugees, but as the legend progresses, they have a community from philosophers to warriors.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Defiance! Click Here

It’s involving to discover the community grow and the harsh realities of living under the Nazi radar. The images in this film will haunt me as strongly as the fresh newsreel “Let my People Go” did when I saw it in junior high.

In my thought, “Defiance” is one of the top films of this year and I hope it earns the awards it deserves. The film is top-notch for students of Jewish history, psychology, and community development. It’s well worth bulky brand in the theatre and adding to your collection.

Rebecca Kyle, February 2009

Story about Jews fleeing Nazi death squads in Belorussia who fight aid against their occupiers and survive for years in forest hideouts. Very entertaining legend and quite well-acted. The R rating is mind-boggling. I’ve seen PG-13 movies with more graphic violence. The profanity is sparse and never gratuitous. An gracious history lesson for teenagers, but the rating will preserve many of them away (along with some adults) . In the novel climate of rising anti-Semitism and holocaust revisionism, this movie is unlikely to find awards, but it should.

In season 3 of Grey’s Anatomy everything fell apart. Everything that could go nasty did. George and Callie split, Izzie and George made a substantial mistake (in my view) in trying to create things work out. Meredith feared commitment and Derek wanted to commit. And in the aftermath of Meredith’s advance death experience, she finally broke down. And then there is Burktina (Cristina and Burke) …which never happened. Like I said, everything that could go unsuitable did. Season 3 was about breaking the characters, exploring them and making all the mistakes. Season 4 is about mending and fixing those mistakes.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Fourth Season! Click Here

This season started slowly, painfully tiring, I shall say. The characters seemed stuck, all of them. And try as they might, they were unable and unwilling to change. Then, it happened, slowly, but surely, they started to evolve. They started to leer beyond themselves and their problems and they started to grow and dilapidated.

The first half of the season (pre-Writer’s Strike) was dull and all enchanting within itself; it refused to be bothered with the world around it. The first half of the season brought in a lot of change, but none of the characters were equipped or willing to deal with it. Cristina refused to confront her non-wedding, Meredith was peaceful reeling from her near-death experience and her inability to commit with Derek. Nevermind the fact that she has to deal with a current sister! Izzie and George had to deal with a unique relationship and a failed one. Alex had himself and Ava to deal with. We also saw some novel characters and some characters leave. All in all the first half of the season was detestable, faded, and unable to foster change.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Fourth Season! Click Here

And then the strike happened, and the creative juices must have been at their peak because what we saw in those 5 last episodes was pure brilliance. The characters finally exploded into corpulent blooded beings in our TVs, they were finally in route to who they are supposed to become and they are finally a testament to what Grey’s Anatomy is supposed to be: gargantuan, emotional and entertaining.

I note the beginning of the change with the arrival of Addison, she came in waltzing in her Zen zone and her unwillingness to derive stressed out and reminded everyone of who they are supposed to be and what they are supposed to be doing, all the meanwhile getting stressed herself. The demonstrate then became magnificent; my blasé viewing of the point to went out the window and FINALLY I became engaged in it once more. The second half of the season was so pleasurable that I made every other crappy episode worth it. It even made season 3 worth it because we finally got to peek our characters evolve. Thus, whereas Season 3 was the breaking apart of everything, this Season 4 was the mending and evolution of Grey’s Anatomy.

Grey’s is gigantic…but the season premiere was aesthetic droll with that whole Izzie-deer thing, I mean, c’mon, I know it’s TV and all, but let’s have a exiguous realism. I, too, felt she was glorious flat this whole season, but didn’t we impartial learn that was because she is persuing more film roles (the reason she withdrew her name from the Emmy’s) .

Meredith and her progression with therapy was gorgeous cool; even with all her whininess (and her high pitched laughter), her future with Derek looks stunning promising. And who cares about Derek so long as he looks marvelous!!

Callie and Hahn–I agree that’s an engrossing dynamic, but Grey’s has been viewed as the multi-racial TV drama, so why not incorporate the whole lesbian thing too? It’s not my cup of tea, but after what Callie’s gone through (and Hahn never gave into Sloan’s pursuit), that too was a natural progression.

Christina and the aftermath of Burke…you know, at the 3rd season finale, I concept the whole, “I’m free” thing was blooming noteworthy, but we haven’t seen really anything more from Christina and how she wasn’t herself when she was with Burke–but what HE made her. I reflect she will have some growth in the 5th season.

George is a bit of a geek–but whatever. Who didn’t watch him and Lexie getting together at some point?? Hasn’t this explain made sex with sparkling noteworthy everyone standard??

Chief and Sloan–supporting characters with shrimp weight this season (I judge), but I do fill we will contemplate Sloan’s role grow more in the coming season. He doesn’t do mighty but sleep with everyone, but that has to change at some point…?

Alex–I have yet to figure that one out, but Ava/Rebecca has to go away once and for all.

Bailey–our precious Bailey–who I contemplate holds the note together–that was a large bummer about her and her husband, but she is trying to build her family first.

Overall, I fill the season was better after the strike was over and the writers and producers found once again what made Grey’s so special in the first situation. I acquire they position up the demolish of season 4 for a ample season 5….should be big to gape near the descend!!!

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), primitive Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me shout.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Up! Click Here

I belief it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a insecure young boy star-struck by a celebrated explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become speedily friends, and verbalize to one day disappear to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they retract their dream home and fix it up, hoping to believe it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through feeble age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a satisfied marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s injure when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.

When developers discontinuance in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and proceed to Paradise Falls. A conventional balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of brilliant balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a rotund, dauntless kid trying to net a scouting badge.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Up! Click Here

After landing in Paradise Falls, the stale man and the slight boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a immense rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of discontinuance calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.

In the process, Carl learns to let go of his dusky mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by elegant hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole modern world.

Up is a deeply emotional film, stout of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Secure another triumph for Pixar.

Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to accomplish an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster sharp movie. But in the meantime, they’re smooth putting out enjoyable intelligent movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety passe man. It’s a charming, fun minute adventure epic with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet limited epic about loss and cherish.

As a child, the terrorized Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared worship of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, proceed into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.

Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a actual estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an keen, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the race. Dreadful kid was objective trying to pick up an “assisting the elderly” badge.

And the jungle hump to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a immense emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious old-fashioned man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the mature guy is very familiar to Carl — and to pick Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as common as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty conventional coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can bask in Carl’s care for for his lost wife, and his listless realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they prove all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing aged together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy advance to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of gargantuan dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Peek Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Chilly! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an former airship.

Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and certain to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is sure to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special observe. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I appreciate you”) and act the plan dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to regain shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of irregular stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable engaging shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to order potentially outrageous baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously attractive, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can like. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

The humour, heart, and spirit that made the reveal a cult classic return in tubby construct in Red Dwarf Succor to Earth. The depths of metaphysical humour are mined yet again for another mind bending adventure with the boys from the dwarf. A more sentimental and placid tone can be felt but the writing and performances feel a small more matured in a pleasant arrangement. The FX sound and visual are terrific in the stellar HD transfer that creates a better illusion between the CG and sets, (not to mention viewer and movie.) This is not the situation to begin for those novel to the prove, but those invested with these characters will be rewarded, even if the yarn doesn’t quite book(ruin)? as poetically as it may have.

For Red Dwarf fans, like any other addict, any Dwarf is better than no Dwarf. So I was aroused to score a copy of the newly released Abet TO EARTH Directors carve. The first thing I noticed was lack of a laugh track. It’s a bit neanderthal of me I guess but I MISS the laugh track! Somehow it seems lonely and shadowy when no-one laughs at the jokes. Sort of like watching a stand-up amusing bomb in a club. I bet others secretly feel the same but won’t admit it for being opinion vulgar and declasse.

Second it was somehow not as madcap and zany as the series. A polished Hi-Def Red Dwarf without cheesy plastic sets honest doesn’t seem accurate to me. I contemplate they even had better teeth!

But all said it was truly gargantuan to study the lads together again. Like a Beatles reunion, how could it not be an chronicle and memorable event? The set was twisty enough to rate multiple viewings so worth the retract. I did witness all the extra features which I view were worth as considerable as the film to a hard-core Dwarfer. Let’s face it, if you’ve never heard of Red Dwarf I don’t know what you’d deem, but if you are a serious Dwarfite then you have to occupy it. Not optional.

It’s getting a release…but not a profitable release. More than 8 minutes have been nick from the beginning of the film (according to dvdverdict) . This isn’t the result of area conversion. They were nick. No explanation. Please send a message to the hacks at Lionsgate and refrain from purchasing this travesty. What a titanic film being so sorely treated. You would judge the idiotic screen art would be sufficient insult to Huston’s final masterpiece.

Do not purchase this video if you do not bask in movies made with delicacy and wistful dismal — it is short, has no sincere region and features no special effects. Yet this movie stands as one of the best ever — it weaves a spell over you, and captivates your every sense. We are treated to the visual trimmings of a holiday feast, along with the Irish folk music that will, objective when you least inquire of it, turn your expectations upside down. The engaging characterizations of every player in this movie bring it to intellectual life; it’s as if you have entered a Christmas card, and can taste, smell and feel everything around you. That James Joyce’s narrative revolves essentially around a simple, but devastating revelation, is what makes it incandescent. So many times in this movie the distinct gives contrivance to more specific visions: as one of the many, many quick-witted ladies speaks at her party, we are brought inside a bedroom, where we linger with the camera on objects — record frames, combs, etc., that spark the imagination and underscore the proceedings with a singluar clarity. Angelica Huston is magically compelling, and the final monologue, delivered with subtle power, will haunt your memory.

I’m level-headed exquisite original to this wide current world of anime, so I can’t really compare Memories to other works in the genre. I can say that it is a most involving and impressive production made up of three very different short films from some of the leading names in anime. I don’t assume the visuals are quite as fair as that of more fresh anime films, but the artistry of these three episodes certainly does befriend elaborate the very different worlds in which the action takes region and demonstrates the compelling, visceral powers of anime. We have the well-known Katsuhiro Otomo to thank for this project; each of the three films, if I’m not incorrect, was adapted from a short manga share in Otomo’s graphic modern Memories.

Episode One is Magnetic Rose, directed by Koji Morimoto of Animatrix fame. This is a dazzling, haunting anecdote of a most recent region rescue mission. The crew of a status garbage collection ship responds to a damage signal from a slow share of station. Two crew members board the debris-shrouded vessel and enter a completely different world, one fueled by the memories of a radiant young opera singer who apparently retreated to the isolation of set following a tragedy in her life. I won’t pretend to have understood every thing about this record, but it is wholly racy. The men encounter lavish rooms including opera houses and living quarters fit for a princess, holograms and other visual artifacts of “the young Madam” Eva engrossing guests and audiences, and decayed artifacts that sometimes advance to life in front of their eyes. Each man is soon drawn into the intellectual, knowing world of Eva’s memories, but only one recognizes the unreality slack the incandescent scenes he encounters – in his case, though, memories of his bear wife and child benefit as fuel for the increasingly realistic episodes he experiences. Great of the epic takes plot to a soundtrack of lovely opera music such as that of Puccini, and the combination of such titanic music and the extraordinary visual miracles that clarify anime of the highest caliber build this a most grand film indeed.

Episode Two, Stink Bomb from director Tensai Okamura, goes in a completely different direction. Existing in some nebulous location between shadowy comedy and grim political satire, Stink Bomb is certainly piquant but mighty less worthy than the other two films. In this memoir, a young scientific researcher takes an experimental fever pill that turns out to be something else entirely. He awakes to come by everyone in the building comatose or dreary (it’s never really sure to me), and shocked company executives order him to salvage the pills and the secret documentation related to them so that he can bring everything to them in Tokyo immediately. He does fair that, but he comes across death and destruction everywhere he goes. He does not understand that he has become a biological weapon emanating deadly gas from within his gain body. It’s almost silly to eye the military firepower brought to enjoy – quite fruitlessly – against him as the military seeks to conclude the spread of the putrid gas. The ending is also somewhat comic, on a dim level.

The last and shortest of the films comes from Katsuhiro Otomo himself. Cannon Fodder is an extremely shaded film that vividly portrays a day in the life of a militaristic society along the lines of a post-modern day Prussia (i.e., pointy helmets are titanic in this world) dedicated solely and completely to the continued firing of stout cannons against some nebulous enemy. The definite interpretation is one of the insanity of warfare, and the shadowy tones and grimly drawn characters bring the message home in a mighty fashion. Interestingly, the entire action seems to consist of one continuous shot that moves fluidly from one scene to another.

Memories dates befriend to 1995, but it is certainly an impressive example of anime’s modern strengths and possibilities. The music, I should mention, plays an integral role in each film, especially Magnetic Rose – I reflect this DVD is worth owning impartial for this first improbable film alone. Otomo, Morimoto, and Okamuro are the same masters of anime who gave the world such wonders as Akira, Animatrix, and Ghost in the Shell, so anime newbies can rest assured that Memories will not disappoint.

I first saw a trailer for “Memories” in 1996 while watching “Sabrina” at a theater in Nagasaki. I plan the bits of animation shown, along with the music were extraordinary and I was abet in a theater when it came out. I’ve seen it several times since and I unruffled regard it as one of the better anime films out there. Top rate animation, a fabulous find – I highly recommend trying to procure the Victor Japan 1 1/2 disc current soundtrack (comprised of one tubby sized CD and a CD single sized disc 2, in some really chilly packaging) – and tall stories. The animation style of the three, like the different stories, are all different. Magnetic Rose is my current, and some of the imagery, paired with the haunting music (combining electronic music with Puccini arias and choral works), have had a lasting finish. Stink Bomb, touching on biological/chemical warefare as well as the military, is heavenly damned droll, and even more relevant in today’s original global climate. The final installment, Cannon Fodder, by Otomo-san, is the most current, both in terms of the animation style/character obtain and in the fable. There is a exclusive “child’s epic” feel mixed with a Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” vibe.

I am fair really mad that this is finally out on Residence 1 DVD. This is a work of anime that is definitely more accessible to mainstream audiences (especially those who abominate the vast, “saucer-eyed” style of anime) . I am gay that I resisted buying the remarkable more expensive Spot 2 position. And did I mention how stout the music is?

I went out and read the book to gape what this movie was all about. I liked the book and looked forward to the movie. I found a lot of negative reviews but most went along the lines of “in these times…” which annoys me because generally you shouldn’t believe a movie by the economic times it comes out in.

If you go to the movie expecting something resembling the book, you will be disappointed. The book is about 90% different than the movie and in the book Rebecca was worthy more believable as impartial an every day person getting into debt. If I remember correctly in the book Becky got an reach after graduation and honest got into the habit of spending until it had grown well past what she had in the bank. But it was not so abominable that she seemed irresponsible. In the book she is a valued reporter at successful savings from the originate. And Luke Brandon was honest someone she knew as a reporter. Overall a worthy stronger and independent woman in the book (oh and it was all spot in London) .

Here, um not so great. Her spending is very out of control for no reason and she starts off at a gardening magazine. Since she seems to have no interest in reporting (other than to gain to fashion :: Well-kept CLICHE’:::) and indeed takes a job at successful savings to attempt to collect into a fashion magazine, she comes off a bit flighty and selfish. I felt awful for all those serious girls in the waiting room who wanted the job at Sucessful Savings — that went to Becky because she wanted to shop. Fortunately, in the movie, for someone so hapless she gets a charming radiant editor who thinks she is radiant and thinks most of what she does is stout.

Of course the movie ends in kind of the “tootsie” live tv moment where Becky is outed as being in vast debt (while in the book it is Becky who takes Brandon to task on tv for one of his companys taking advantage of ordinary folks ) but in the movie everyone loves her anyway after proving to be a fraud.

I guess the *current economic times* comes into play in that Becky in the movie is the person we all loathe. The person who got the too gargantuan for her to pay mortgage even though she knew, or should have, there was no design to pay for it, the person who got into debt and is now declaring bankruptcy… yet, this movie gives her the dreamy Hugh Dancy as reward. And in the movie, Becky never seems remorseful, yet in the book she really is.

I might have enjoyed this more had I not read the book. To look a strong independent Becky there kind of makes me frustrated that things were so changed here.

I have a confession to fabricate…every now and then I cherish to peek movies that are purely frivolous, impartial listless fun and, well, on the girly side. Confessions of a Shopaholic is the perfect combination of these qualities. It’s beefy of comical, completely ridiculous situations, witty dialogue, slapstick humor and lighthearted entertainment that reminds every girl about the excitement, and distress, of shopping.

Isla Fisher plays Rebecca Bloomwood, a shopping-addicted Unique York journalist who suddenly finds herself buried under credit card debt and without a job. In order to pay off her bills and fade closer to her dream, Rebecca takes a job at a finance magazine that’s all about saving money. Through a series of highly fabulous, but absolutely hilarious, events Rebecca becomes the magazine’s poster girl for personal finance -while hiding overdue bills under her bed.

Shopaholic fast becomes predictable, leaving the audience only to wonder how and when the next situation point will occur. While this may bother some film goers, I didn’t mind it because that’s the kind of movie I was expecting. It’s fun and curious enough to assist you dash from your occupy credit card debt for a shrimp while, but not phenomenal. Fisher is irresistible and will sustain you wondering what kind of crazy thing she’s going to do next.

But men beware -even though Shopaholic is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, this movie is purely for women. The only guys who were in the theater when I went seemed like they were dragged by their essential others (except my dad, who likes Isla Fisher) . The movie’s PG rating also implies that the movie is intended for families. There were a few itsy-bitsy girls in the theater when I went, and they seemed to be having a better time than the adults. But adults be warned: there are scenes of alcohol consumption and drunkenness in the movie, but they are fairly quiet.

Some people reflect that this movie is not appropriate for the country’s unusual economic condition, but I mediate that it teaches a pleasurable lesson. Rebecca’s credit card debit ends up ruining her life and her career so grand that she is forced to change her habits and conquer her shopping addiction -sounds to me like something the average American should have learned long ago.
