Like all road pictures, AWAY WE GO is about a couple in their early thirties trying to see themselves (and what kind of home and family they want to build for themselves) through a round of visits in the sixth month of the pregnancy. I’ve never been a big fan of Dave Eggers, but the script that he wrote with Vendela Vida is a shining one. The structure of the film is simple: Burt (THE OFFICE’s Jim Krasinski) and Verona (SNL’s Maya Rudolph) have moved to a diminutive, wintry house entirely so that they can live advance Burt’s parents. But after learning that they will be attractive to Antwerp a month before their baby is due, they realize that they don’t need to live any longer in a town where they have no friends and, now, no relatives. They concept a long trek that will examine them visiting friends and relatives in a number of locations, including Scottsdale, Tucson, Montreal, and Miami. They peruse people whose lives they would like to emulate and those they would not.

And along the plot hilarity ensues. The scenes between Burt and Verona are frequently hysterical, though when they are meeting their friends or relatives they tend to become “straight men” and the humor shifts over to the others. Although several people are absolutely outstanding, two actors deserve special mention. First, Allison Janney is absolutely hysterical as Verona’s venerable boss in Chicago (more about Chicago in a second) . She is, putting it simply, a nightmare of a mother. But in the most hysterical of ways. (Now on Chicago. Verona mentions working in Chicago and she is shown to be a medical illustrator. This is not unconnected with Chicago; in fact, there is a express correlation between medical illustration and Chicago, since the most primary medical illustration program is at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical School. Odds are that if someone has studied medical illustration, they did it there.) The second actor who stands out is Maggie Gyllenhaal, who plays a college professor and stale friend of Burt who and the embracer of more fringe and nutzoid ideas than one can imagine. Her ideas, and those of her husband, are so absurd that given gentle, placid Burt can select no more.

But the major kudos have to go to Krasinski and Rudolph, who manage to produce two characters we approach to like a gargantuan deal and who we very mighty hope will near to understand precisely what they and where they want to have it. This is an especially delightful film given the overwhelming amount of special effects fare at this time of the year. This is an gleaming film that also manages to be very, very amusing. It is currently in somewhat petite release, but when you collect a chance to examine it, do so.

At the butt-end of last year Sam Mendes directed a film called Revolutionary Road. This was a masterpiece, truly deserving of that title. It’s his best film hands down! His previous films American Beauty and Road To Perdition weren’t too shabby either. They all have a sense of darkness and foreboading. The murky foreboading element is missing from his new film Away We Go, and that is not a unpleasant thing.

The basic set-up is simple and understandable in that movie universe sort of contrivance, but two winning performances from leads Mya Rudolph and Chris Krisinski really assist this thing over some of the comedy set-up trappings. Rudolph is an actress that I’ve known from SNL and that’s it, I’ve not seen here in anything else. Surprisingly, she ends up playing straight-man to Krisinski. And you she gives a very touching and unbiased performance, and I spy a tremendous career outside anything resembling comedy in her future. Krisinski is an actor I’ve never seen in anything. I’ve been informed that he is one of the stars of the American version of The Office, and he, like Rudolph, is someone I want to leer more of. He plays affable in this film like a pro. He’s an optimist and a realist all in one heartwarming stroke. He’s the goofier of the couple but it comes off more like it’s share of his character and his personality and less like comedy schtick. Together I would observe any film premise about this pairing.

This is a true couple, not a made up movie couple. This is my common fragment of this film. The station is cute and similar to that of the spacious film Flirting With Inconvenience, but the unmarried leads earn this film above average. They don’t have comical, pointless and melodramatic arguments to up the conflict factor most these type of films contrive for the sheer ‘entertainment’ value. Sorry, folks, this is about staunch people not the cyphers that earn up the world of most sitcoms and Rom-Coms.

The first and one of the best examples I can conjur up in regard to this point is an early scene of the couple driving to Krisinski’s parents’ house(played hysterically but briefly by Jeff Daneiels and Catherine O’Hara) . Krisinski, who sells insurance by phone, gets a call from a client and puts on an disagreeable ‘offcial business’ narrate that irritates Rudolph. She pulls over the car and gently steps out. He catches up to her and they flirt. There’s no laughable argument of the two complaining about themselves. They know each other so well and truly care for each other to the point that they know each others’ faults, quirks and everything in between. This is what it is like to truly know, understand and esteem each other. Puny touches like this really obtain this film rise abvove the rest.

This is a road movie so we meet various other side characters that attend emphasise and illustrate versions of family life and original couplings. We rep some huge cameo by Maggie Gyllenhal as a very liber4al new-agey type who supplies some o the film’s funniest situational comedy. Most of the humor comes from an fair area and not joke set-ups. Not all of the humor, but most. The constant change in locale is a comedy arrangement in itself but we forgive it because the characters are so bright and right.

The film is not without its flaws. The premise is a bit distinct and basically negligiable. The final emotional conclusions are determined long before they reach, but they are executed and performed so flawlessly it’s easy to forgive this flaw.

I’m ecstatic to contemplate Mendes broaden inot this territory. It’s not as shaded, and it’s not about downhearted people, but rather right people. They are self-proclaimed “F@#$CK ups”. It’s a account of slack bloomers. They’re impartial making it and fitting the pieces together a slight slower then the rest of us. No enormous career destinations, no huge dreams, they’re unbiased living their lives and loving each other honestly. It’s quite glorious. Starting their unexpected family is as natural to them as never becoming a wedded couple. This is life, but rather contrived in a more moving movie intention.

Sequels veteran to be about remaking the same film again and again (remember “Friday The 13th” or “Nightmare on Elm Street”? ) with minor variations so the audience gets their fix. John Carpenter, Kurt Russell and Debra Hill inverted the paradigmn reprising the best elements from “Elope from Fresh York” while introducing a heavy dose of satire aimed squarely at the Lawful Majority and groups of that nature. While not as memorable as that film, “Sprint from L. A.” takes perfect aim at liberal Hollywood, the conservative religious just, sequels and skewers them all uninteresting on most of the time.

Snake Plissken is serve in difficulty. Captured again he’s set aside into the service of national security against his will. It seems a draw that can detonate orbital nuclear devices has been stolen by the President’s daughter and delivered into the hands of a self styled rebel leader named Cuervo Jones (George Corraface) in what’s left of Southern California. Cuervo plans on using this scheme against the United States. Plissken is sent to the island of Los Angeles to retreive the plan. Yes, folks the Substantial ONE finally hit and a gigantic section of the Los Angeles basin dropped into the ocean like a ten ton weight while the remainder floats off the hover of the United States making the perfect region to deport people who don’t have high suitable fiber or generally tick off the President for life (Cliff Robertson in a zigzag performance) . Infected by a deadly designer virus that makes Ebola seem like the flu, Snake has no choice but to select the job of retrieving. Malloy (Stacy Keach stepping in for the gradual Lee Van Cleef) and Brazen (the pretty Michelle Forbes leisurely of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, “Homicide: Life on the Streets” and the second season of “24″) provide Snake with his only link to the outside world.

Along the procedure Snake meets surfers (Peter Fonda), the Surgeon General of Beverly Hills (Bruce Campbell in a hilarious role that truly is the highlight of the movie) in pursuit of the scheme. Oh and once again Snake has one of those broad digital watches attached to his wrist to remind him his days are numbered if he doesn’t earn the scheme encourage in time. Filled with sizable cameos by Steve Buscemi (as Device to the Stars Eddie), B-movie queen Pam Grier (as Hershe Las Palmas), Italian beauty Valerie Golino, the leisurely Paul Bartel, Issac Hayes (in a cameo) and Robert Carradine “Elope from L.A.” unprejudiced might be Carpenter’s most undervalued film (along with the spacious satire “They Live”) .

The weakest link in the film turns out to be the uneven visual effects done by Disney’s Buena Vista Visual Effects. Some of the opticals explore spacious particularly the scenes where Los Angeles gets hit by the 9.6 earthquake. The sequences consuming the mini-sub and some of the helicopters gape as if they were taken from computer games. While computer graphics were aloof developing at the time, I’m surprised that Disney’s effects house wasn’t able to reach up with more convincing visuals for this sequence. Calm, while they aren’t what they could be they’re not the focus of the myth either and are a exquisite minor quandary. Many of the best effects work quite well. The production construct by Lawrence G. Paull (”Blade Runner”, “Aid to the Future”, “Predator 2″) gives the film a great bigger view than the budget the film had (it cost roughly $50 million to develop including the marketing fraction of the budget) . A bit of trivia about the film. Russell appears wearing the same costume he had for the first film at the beginning. Russell also made all the basketball shots seen in the climatic game himself.

Presented in its new widescreen format with a trailer as the only extra, this was released when Paramount was playing accumulate up in releasing product for the DVD market. The image quality is exceptionally obedient with big color reproduction and a nearly flawless print (particularly when compared to the remastered re-release of “Rush from Current York”) with a nice 5.1 sound mix.

It’s too poor this hasn’t been reissued with extras (such as a commentary from Carpenter and Russell and one or two featurettes. Heck, there’s got to be a promo part somewhere in Paramount’s vault about this as I seem to remember one being released to promote it) because, while isn’t quite up to “Run from Unique York”, “Race from L.A.” is quiet a memorable sequel with enough satire, parody and humor laced moments to maintain fans of the unique jubilant. Hopefully one of these days this minor Carpenter classic will procure the re-evaluation it deserves.

When I first saw this film in the theaters, I really didn’t like it. In fact, I was attractive let down! I had grown up with Hurry From Unique York, and to my anxiety, John Carpenter remade his gain film! I’m not kidding, REMADE it. Lawful down to Snake getting shot in the leg and limping for the last half of the film. Years later I revaluated my belief. You can’t invent a film as corny as this on accident, especially if you’re a extinct director like John Carpenter; It had to be done on purpose. I’ve read numerous interviews over the years and have found out two things, and I assume these two things are the reason this film ended up the plan it did. First, John Carpenter hates sequels. He never wanted to earn sequels to his films. He never wanted a sequel to Halloween(let alone six! That’s why he produced Halloween 3 which people hated so grand, coz he was trying to prefer this series in a different direction and not retread the whole Michael Myers thing) . I also understand that both Carpenter and Kurt Russell were under alot of studio pressure to accomplish this film. I don’t know what kind of favor Carpenter owed the studio, but he made this film. And my theory is that he made this film intentionally abominable to say to the studio, “There, I made the stinking sequel you wanted, don’t ask me to do it again!” I mean really, if he had wanted to fabricate a sequel to Hurry From Recent York, don’t you assume he would have struck while the iron was hot and made it at the height of the first film’s success instead of waiting 15 years? Reflect about it. When I believe this scenario, I can gaze Dash From L.A and have a obedient laugh thinking that John Carpenter may have played a enormous joke on the Hollywood studios. Really, there’s no draw Carpenter included that surfing scene with the diagram of it being taken seriously. The film is objective contrivance too overblown, plan too cheesy and obviously a carbon copy of the recent to be anything other than a joke. Kurt may be older now, but he’s actually tranquil able to play Snake Plissken like it’s 1980. The performance is tremendous, it’s fair the film surrounding Kurt that’s comical. Try watching it again and search for what you reflect.

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), worn Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me wail.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Up! Click Here

I understanding it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a petrified young boy star-struck by a notorious explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become quick friends, and suppose to one day recede to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they grasp their dream home and fix it up, hoping to contain it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through feeble age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a tickled marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s harm when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.

When developers discontinuance in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and proceed to Paradise Falls. A venerable balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of quick-witted balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a fat, dauntless kid trying to gain a scouting badge.

After landing in Paradise Falls, the stale man and the runt boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a great rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of end calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.

In the process, Carl learns to let go of his gloomy mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by heavenly hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole recent world.

Up is a deeply emotional film, fat of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Secure another triumph for Pixar.

Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to originate an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster captivating movie. But in the meantime, they’re tranquil putting out delectable fascinating movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety broken-down man. It’s a charming, fun miniature adventure tale with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet minute anecdote about loss and esteem.

As a child, the troubled Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared savor of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, depart into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.

Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a genuine estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an interested, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the lumber. Abominable kid was fair trying to collect an “assisting the elderly” badge.

And the jungle stride to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a enormous emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious faded man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the archaic guy is very familiar to Carl — and to remove Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as approved as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty used coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can indulge in Carl’s cherish for his lost wife, and his boring realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they present all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing veteran together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy advance to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of big dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Seek Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Wintry! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an veteran airship.

Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and obvious to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is clear to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special seek. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I worship you”) and act the plot dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to derive shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of strange stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable spicy shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to say potentially horrible baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously involving, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can be pleased. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

Seen a viewing of ‘AMERICAN VIOLET’ recently.. And I had mixed emotions: upset, miserable, gay, and surprised! To be falsely accused of a crime, that you know deep in your heart you did NOT commit, is one thing… But when your so-called lawyer suggests you to catch a plea bargain, oppose to fighting for your clearance makes one wonder who can you trust… This movie, based on accurate events, is heartwrenching, as it is an eye-opener!!! I’d recommend that everyone sees this flick, even teens!!! Granted this ocurred in Melody, Texas, it’s taking position worldwide…

PS… Expedient performances by all: Nicole Beharie, Alfre Woodard, Will Patton, even Anthony Mackey!!! Applause, followed by a standing ovation!!!

Wouldn’t it be abominable to accumulate yourself jailed for something you did not do, based solely on the word of a lying, mentally ill drug addict? That’s what happened to Regina Kelly in Hearne, Texas relieve in 2000. Ensnared in a mass arrest of suspected drug dealers at her housing project, the young single mother was charged with selling drugs in a school zone. Despite her insistence that she was innocent, her court-appointed attorney pressured her to regain a plea bargain to avoid many years in prison and the loss of her children. With no criminal narrate and no drugs found on or advance her, she refused the deal. Instead, with the support of the American Civil Liberties Union she filed a class action lawsuit.

Although Kelly’s case was reported in a documentary by PBS’ cutting-edge Frontline serve in 2004, American Violet brings a fictionalized version to a broader, mass audience. Co-director Bill Haney (along with Tim Disney) says he heard about Kelly’s case on National Public Radio as he was driving; it so moved him that he pulled his car over to the side of the road and cried.

In this film, “Dee Roberts” (a beautiful Nicole Beharie) is the plaintiff in a class-action case over racial discrimination in drug enforcement. Tim Blake Nelson plays David Cohen, the ACLU lawyer who sues district attorney Calvin Beckett (Michael O’Keefe) on her behalf.

Kelly is quoted in the Chicago Tribune as saying the film is “90 percent correct.” The depositions, the courtroom scene in which she fights to support custody of her children, and many other scenes are word-for-word accounts.

Like Clint Eastwood’s Changeling, this fable of a defiant woman’s struggle against imperfect law enforcement strikes a universal chord. But American Violet also addresses present-day criminal justice themes of racial profiling, coerced plea bargaining, and – most of all – wrongful convictions based on groundless statements by jailhouse informants.

I highly recommend this remarkable movie.

For those keen in more information on the staunch case, the Web has various resources. The class-action case, Regina Kelly v. John Paschall, is discussed at the ACLU’s website. Kelly has her acquire web state and a YouTube video; honest Google her name to derive to those. I have also posted more information and links at 1url(dot) com/AmericanViolet.

Stargate Atlantis entering it’s 5th season was filled with a lot of suspense, action, drama, and even the suitable ol Stargte comedy like Rodney delivering Teyla’s baby. The display had a solid first section with the knowing special effects of “Daedalus Variations” and the heart-felt budge jerker “Ghost in the Machine” and “The Shrine”. Our estimable or foe wraith Todd makes a titanic appearance in “The Queen” where Teyla goes through a transformations.

The mid-season 2 parter was fable with a special guest appearance by Michael Shanks to fufill his role as Daniel Jackson. If you are a SG-1 and SGA fan it was an story episode with a unpleasant discovery.

As the 2nd half progresses we glean memoir eps like “The Prodgial” which features an legend scene with Sheppard, Michael, and Teyla fighting on the balcony outskirt of the city Atlantis. Another wonderful nod was “Outsiders” which features another episode of the returned Carson Becektt and gives a classic SGA feel with the character interactions. Best line, Mckay: “It’s not a volkswagon Carson”. Also a shot out at “Remnants” which dives into 3 characters, Woolsey, Sheppard, and Mckay, and features a clever spot twist.

The 2nd half dragged a shrimp with the fueled shipping and relationship of Mckeller. I contemplate that was the only downfall to the season. It felt a minute rushed and forced but was not overkill in the season.

The series ends with the last 2 eps. A CSI feel Atlantis taking status in Vegas, titled, um “Vegas”. Frosty and gripping music selections from Producer Robert Cooper featuring, “Marilyn Manson”, “The Rolling Stones”, and “Johnny Cash”. A very recent episode that really captures the heart and personality of one John Sheppard.

The series/season finale was rushed because of MGM’s decision to replace Atlantis with Stargate Universe. A lot of fans were upset because Atlantis was serene performing very well in ratings. So the producers, with no slots in their eps, had to fleet advance up with a 100ep/Season finale/Series Finale all in one. Did they do it? Well not all the blueprint. It should of been a 2-parter for a lot of fans taste, but it was a very wonderful episode. Felt more like a season finale.

Season 5 was not the best season, but it was up there. Now with a Stargate Atlantis movie in the works and scheduled for a 2010 release it should be lively how they continue the tale where Season 5 left off this past Winter.

They don’t have a 4 1/2 option so I’ll objective give it 5 stars!

Wonderful season 5 for Stargate: Atlantis! Some standout episodes have already been mentioned but the 2 portion mini arc with Dr. Daniel Jackson as well as the entire cast was total entertainment and needs to be mentioned again. ‘Vegas’ was also something special.

I admit to smooth being ticked off that Stargate: Atlantis was cancelled. Yes a movie sounds tall but I feel that the season suffered because of the axe hanging over their heads. This prove did not deserve cancellation. The ratings were collected solid and there were aloof plenty of places to go with these characters.

Why bother watching this unique point to if the stagger could be pulled at any time? What is the point in investing the time when the bean counters could pull the stagger on something obedient?

I’ve been a fan of Stargate: Atlantis since the first episode and I miss seeing these characters in fresh adventures. I’m quiet in mourning…

So it averages out to 4 stars then.

The music is unprejudiced enormous with many key blues performances from Muddy Waters, Cramped Walter, Etta James, Howlin’Wolf and Willie Dixon recreated. The myth is a blend of fiction and fact and one wonders why the half truths and lies had to win their procedure into the chronicle. Objective a few of the “mistruths”:

-There were 2 Chess Brothers, not impartial one and both had a strong involvement in the company.

- Len Chess died 2 months after he sold his company not unprejudiced after stepping foot outside the door.

-Etta James did not recount “I’d Rather Go Blind” in Chicago although she did report her composition for the Chess impress.

-Etta had already been a star for 5 years prior to joining Chess.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Cadillac Records! Click Here

-Len Chess did actually wait on as a session musician if the residence demanded it.

-The Chess company recorded many other musicians and styles during their career.

-Whether Chess ever dated Etta James is debatable. She had a boyfriend who was writing some of her best material at the time.

- Chess operated in a few smaller buildings before consuming to 2120 South Michigam Ave in 1955.

A thorough memoir on what is right and what is not would no doubt train countless other mistruths. The seek information from is why does Hollywood have to falsify and dress up the facts when a simple represent on the facts would have been so great better. Mild, the music in this movie is a blues fan’s dream and credit must be given for that.

An outstanding original book, Ted Gioia’s “Delta Blues” (2008) tells the fable of “The Life and Times of the Mississippi Masters who Revolutionized American Music.” Grand of Gioia’s book is devoted to the blues singers who left the Delta in the behind 1940s and relocated to other American cities, including Chicago. With Gioia’s book new in my mind, I was keen to search for “Cadillac Records”, a unique movie which tells of transplanted blues, early rock and roll, and Chicago — and of the association of many mountainous blues artists with Chess Records and Leonard Chess. The movie offers compelling portraits of Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf, of the Mississippi Delta, together with Miniature Walter, Willie Dixon, Chuck Berry, guitarist Hubert Sumlin, and Etta James together with its portrait of Leonard Chess. The movie is directed by Darnell Martin.

Gioia writes: “Like Muddy Waters, the Chess brothers were outsiders trying to do themselves in Chicago.” (”Delta Blues, p. 216) . Leonard and Philip Chess (born Lijzor and Fiszel Czyz) arrived in the United States in 1928. Leonard progressed from working in his father’s junk shop, to opening a liquor store and nightclub, the Macomba Lounge on Chicago’s South Side, to establishing the Chess recount mark to describe murky artists in the areas of blues, gospel, doo-wop, and rock. Philip Chess does not appear in the movie. But Leonard receives a tough and good portrait from Adrien Brody in “Cadillac Records” as a fresh American distinct to obtain a success of himself.

Muddy Waters was born McKinley Morganfield as a sharecropper in the Mississippi Delta. In 1943, Alan Lomax visited Waters, as he was already known, and made a famed series of blues recordings with Waters singing and playing acoustic bottleneck guitar. The movie opens with an suitable scene between Lomax and Waters in Mississippi (filmed in Louisiana) . Shortly thereafter, Waters moved to Chicago and changed Delta Blues and music when he electrified his instrument. Waters would form several efforts to adapt during the course of a long career. Remarkable of “Cadillac Records” is told in his notify and through his eyes, portrayed by Jeffery Wright.

Howling Wolf, born Chester Burnet, also was a musician from the Mississippi Delta. A physically mammoth and formidable man who resembled a linebacker more than a musician, Wolf was already middle-aged when he came to Chicago. He was archaic enough to have known early Delta blues singers Charlie Patton and Son House. Wolf, portrayed by Eamonn Walker in “Cadillac Records”, arrived in Chicago from Memphis, with a surly bright temper and more of a head for business than some other rural singers. Wolf and Waters, and the sometimes jealous relationship that developed between them, is well portrayed in this movie.

The movie also offers noble portrayals of Small Walter, (played by Columbus Short) with his drinking and fighting and unmatchable artistry on the harmonica. His believe tendencies to attract and to give violence are graphically portrayed. Chuck Barry (Mos Def) is portrayed as the founder of rock and roll, a style that would for a time displace Chess’s bluesmen. We discover him “crossing over” to white audiences in this movie, in the face of a heavily segregated Chicago, and serving jail time for contributing to the delinquency of minors at the height of his career. The movie shows other white rock groups plagiarizing from Berry. Songwriter and bassist Willie Dixon (Cedrick the Entertainer), like Wolf a gigantic man, wrote and helped effect considerable of Wolf’s and Water’s material. The vulnerable, frightened, foul-mouthed and greatly talented Etta James was added to Chess’s artists when the sign conception it needed a woman performer. James is portrayed by Beyonce. She makes a lovely presence in this movie with her passionate performance of James’s classic “At Last”. (The violinists in the studio raise their heads from their instruments in disbelief as James/Beyonce wails in recording “At Last”, creating an unforgettable image of what needs to be said about this song.)

The movie suggests that James and Leonard Chess became romantically eager. This is likely improper. Many of the details of the yarn are also probably historically unsuitable. But the film is a epic rather than a documentary and should be judged for its occupy effectiveness and for the arrangement it portrays its characters and its times. And here I concept it succeeded admirably. The movie captures the blues as it moved from the Delta to Chicago. These musicians have only recently received some of the recognition that their artistry deserves. Leonard Chess, with his mixture of paternalism, insight, ambition, and probable exploitation of his talented musicians, is aptly portrayed. The difficult transition from their rural roots that Waters, Petite Walter, and the other musicians experienced in Chicago, and their struggles with alcohol, violence, promiscuity and racism, are properly emphasized in the movie. And the soundtrack brings “Cadillac Records” to life. The songs are not performed by the new artists, but the performances especially Beyonce’s as Etta James, are piquant.

“Cadillac Records” is a gritty portrayal of blues, rock, Leonard Chess, and the relate company he founded. The movie tells of a original American art do, developed by outsiders and immigrants, which continues to beget great contributions to American culture.

It’s getting a release…but not a excellent release. More than 8 minutes have been slit from the beginning of the film (according to dvdverdict) . This isn’t the result of space conversion. They were cleave. No explanation. Please send a message to the hacks at Lionsgate and refrain from purchasing this travesty. What a gargantuan film being so sorely treated. You would deem the idiotic camouflage art would be sufficient insult to Huston’s final masterpiece.

Do not win this video if you do not delight in movies made with delicacy and wistful heart-broken — it is short, has no exact location and features no special effects. Yet this movie stands as one of the best ever — it weaves a spell over you, and captivates your every sense. We are treated to the visual trimmings of a holiday feast, along with the Irish folk music that will, honest when you least request it, turn your expectations upside down. The titillating characterizations of every player in this movie bring it to radiant life; it’s as if you have entered a Christmas card, and can taste, smell and feel everything around you. That James Joyce’s myth revolves essentially around a simple, but devastating revelation, is what makes it quick-witted. So many times in this movie the certain gives procedure to more specific visions: as one of the many, many sparkling ladies speaks at her party, we are brought inside a bedroom, where we linger with the camera on objects — recount frames, combs, etc., that spark the imagination and underscore the proceedings with a singluar clarity. Angelica Huston is magically compelling, and the final monologue, delivered with subtle power, will haunt your memory.

I’m mild heavenly fresh to this wide original world of anime, so I can’t really compare Memories to other works in the genre. I can say that it is a most captivating and impressive production made up of three very different short films from some of the leading names in anime. I don’t contemplate the visuals are quite as stunning as that of more unique anime films, but the artistry of these three episodes certainly does wait on justify the very different worlds in which the action takes situation and demonstrates the compelling, visceral powers of anime. We have the famed Katsuhiro Otomo to thank for this project; each of the three films, if I’m not inaccurate, was adapted from a short manga fragment in Otomo’s graphic original Memories.

Episode One is Magnetic Rose, directed by Koji Morimoto of Animatrix fame. This is a pretty, haunting fable of a most recent region rescue mission. The crew of a state garbage collection ship responds to a afflict signal from a slow share of situation. Two crew members board the debris-shrouded vessel and enter a completely different world, one fueled by the memories of a glowing young opera singer who apparently retreated to the isolation of status following a tragedy in her life. I won’t pretend to have understood every thing about this memoir, but it is wholly tantalizing. The men encounter lavish rooms including opera houses and living quarters fit for a princess, holograms and other visual artifacts of “the young Madam” Eva engrossing guests and audiences, and decayed artifacts that sometimes reach to life in front of their eyes. Each man is soon drawn into the colorful, intellectual world of Eva’s memories, but only one recognizes the unreality gradual the smart scenes he encounters – in his case, though, memories of his contain wife and child succor as fuel for the increasingly realistic episodes he experiences. Distinguished of the chronicle takes location to a soundtrack of radiant opera music such as that of Puccini, and the combination of such sizable music and the astounding visual miracles that justify anime of the highest caliber acquire this a most grand film indeed.

Episode Two, Stink Bomb from director Tensai Okamura, goes in a completely different direction. Existing in some nebulous status between murky comedy and grim political satire, Stink Bomb is certainly fascinating but worthy less considerable than the other two films. In this chronicle, a young scientific researcher takes an experimental fever pill that turns out to be something else entirely. He awakes to win everyone in the building comatose or monotonous (it’s never really definite to me), and shrinking company executives order him to win the pills and the secret documentation related to them so that he can bring everything to them in Tokyo immediately. He does objective that, but he comes across death and destruction everywhere he goes. He does not understand that he has become a biological weapon emanating deadly gas from within his beget body. It’s almost comic to watch the military firepower brought to have – quite fruitlessly – against him as the military seeks to cessation the spread of the sinful gas. The ending is also somewhat amusing, on a sad level.

The last and shortest of the films comes from Katsuhiro Otomo himself. Cannon Fodder is an extremely sad film that vividly portrays a day in the life of a militaristic society along the lines of a post-modern day Prussia (i.e., pointy helmets are stout in this world) dedicated solely and completely to the continued firing of large cannons against some nebulous enemy. The certain interpretation is one of the insanity of warfare, and the unlit tones and grimly drawn characters bring the message home in a remarkable fashion. Interestingly, the entire action seems to consist of one continuous shot that moves fluidly from one scene to another.

Memories dates succor to 1995, but it is certainly an impressive example of anime’s recent strengths and possibilities. The music, I should mention, plays an integral role in each film, especially Magnetic Rose – I consider this DVD is worth owning impartial for this first improbable film alone. Otomo, Morimoto, and Okamuro are the same masters of anime who gave the world such wonders as Akira, Animatrix, and Ghost in the Shell, so anime newbies can rest assured that Memories will not disappoint.

I first saw a trailer for “Memories” in 1996 while watching “Sabrina” at a theater in Nagasaki. I conception the bits of animation shown, along with the music were astounding and I was wait on in a theater when it came out. I’ve seen it several times since and I collected regard it as one of the better anime films out there. Top rate animation, a improbable glean – I highly recommend trying to accept the Victor Japan 1 1/2 disc unique soundtrack (comprised of one chunky sized CD and a CD single sized disc 2, in some really icy packaging) – and grand stories. The animation style of the three, like the different stories, are all different. Magnetic Rose is my current, and some of the imagery, paired with the haunting music (combining electronic music with Puccini arias and choral works), have had a lasting attain. Stink Bomb, touching on biological/chemical warefare as well as the military, is fair damned comic, and even more relevant in today’s unusual global climate. The final installment, Cannon Fodder, by Otomo-san, is the most unique, both in terms of the animation style/character perform and in the myth. There is a strange “child’s epic” feel mixed with a Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” vibe.

I am impartial really furious that this is finally out on Area 1 DVD. This is a work of anime that is definitely more accessible to mainstream audiences (especially those who abhor the ample, “saucer-eyed” style of anime) . I am jubilant that I resisted buying the remarkable more expensive Situation 2 dwelling. And did I mention how titanic the music is?

The movie is a itsy-bitsy hard to follow at times, and the ending is rushed–and some viewers will put a question to how this resolution was reached based on a few scenes. But objective go with it.

Zac Efron proves that he is more than “High School Musical” material. The young actor delivers his lines in a plot that makes you have that he is both 17 and 37.

Parents notice that this movie is rated PG-13. It contains fighting, sexual references, teenage drinking, and some language.

This was a attractive fun movie to stare. I like this particular type of yarn, so I knew going in that I’d have some fun with it.

Zac Efron is actually a decent actor, and he was far less orange in this movie than he typically is.

He had expansive chemistry with his costars, played the displaced middle obsolete guy resplendent well, handled the fatherly vibe with his son and daughter in a believeable fashion.

My problems with the movie include:

1) Matthew Perry and Zac Efron search for nothing alike. I’m 26 years out of high school and while I don’t peep 17, I composed peer like my younger self.

Maybe David Cassidy should have been chosen for the older role, but then they would have had to go for a considerable older ‘older role’ which would have made the wife/kid attraction seriously creepy.

2) The mom hardly EVER interacted with her kids. She had some interaction/fondness for her son, but almost none with her daughter. When the daughter and mother were together in scenes it was if they didn’t know each other. The daughter is dating a very irascible guy who behaves abusively to the son in their contain house and neither parent was aware?

Overall, fun movie to ogle. Could have been far better if the writers had bothered to script a better location. Lack of help legend on the characters made it hard to really understand the wife’s rage, or the children’s complete dismissal of the father.
