It’s as if Darren Aronofsky filmed your very gain worst nightmare, assuming you had anything to do with drugs or drug addicts. If ever a viewer wondered about the interior region of being of drug addiction, this is the movie for you. Aronofsky former Hubert Selby Jr.’s book and screenplay as his source material and the source material is radiant.

I care for movies which leer surreal states. This must near in allotment from my fascination with surrealist art. Aronofsky’s film probably owes more to the slack Salvador Dali than to any other film director. I’m also fascinated by movies which travel as if you were viewing them in a dream location. We do utilize a vast deal of our lives in a dream position and glance life from an entirely different perspective in REM time. Aronofsky seems to understand this very well. Aronofsky and Selby, in intended irony, load their characters with dreams of their occupy which are destined to remain unfilled in ample fragment because of their drug addictions.

Ellen Burstyn plays the easiest addict to understand and she does her usual masterful job. She wants to lose weight so takes diet pills (run) to do so. Her dream is to be on tv which is what spurs her to the accelerate. Her son Harry, his girlfriend Marion, and his best friend Tyrone spend the outright illegal street drugs and dream of becoming sizable drug dealers instead of vulgar level pushers. On the diagram to drug fortune, they themselves become addicted.

Jared Leto as the son Harry Goldfarb does a first rate acting job. Frankly, prior to this role, I didn’t believe he had any acting talent. There is a growing spot with his injection infected arm which will remain visually with you long after the movie is over. Jennifer Connelly as Marion Silver is every bit as fabulous as Burstyn in this film. She is Harry’s girlfriend, soon to enter a life of degradation due to the nightmarish descent into drugs.

Because this film is so visual, it is an ideal one for seeing in the best possible format available. Blue-ray was invented for honest this kind of film.

This film is rated #65 on the IMDb list of the best films ever. I’ll confine my comments to the quality of the disc itself. I’m fairly picky, and I score both the audio and video quality to be quite pleasant. The shadowy levels, color saturation, incompatibility and sharpness are all first-rate. The sound in both lossless and lossey audio is also favorable. I consume high-end equipment and I can’t fault the technical aspects of this release. Don’t let the indecent stamp fear you…this disc is a bargain.

Sequels ancient to be about remaking the same film again and again (remember “Friday The 13th” or “Nightmare on Elm Street”? ) with minor variations so the audience gets their fix. John Carpenter, Kurt Russell and Debra Hill inverted the paradigmn reprising the best elements from “Sprint from Novel York” while introducing a heavy dose of satire aimed squarely at the Correct Majority and groups of that nature. While not as memorable as that film, “Dash from L. A.” takes perfect aim at liberal Hollywood, the conservative religious true, sequels and skewers them all tedious on most of the time.

Snake Plissken is serve in distress. Captured again he’s save into the service of national security against his will. It seems a design that can detonate orbital nuclear devices has been stolen by the President’s daughter and delivered into the hands of a self styled rebel leader named Cuervo Jones (George Corraface) in what’s left of Southern California. Cuervo plans on using this procedure against the United States. Plissken is sent to the island of Los Angeles to retreive the diagram. Yes, folks the Substantial ONE finally hit and a ample fragment of the Los Angeles basin dropped into the ocean like a ten ton weight while the remainder floats off the flee of the United States making the perfect location to deport people who don’t have high legal fiber or generally tick off the President for life (Cliff Robertson in a hooked performance) . Infected by a deadly designer virus that makes Ebola seem like the flu, Snake has no choice but to occupy the job of retrieving. Malloy (Stacy Keach stepping in for the slack Lee Van Cleef) and Brazen (the shapely Michelle Forbes slack of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, “Homicide: Life on the Streets” and the second season of “24″) provide Snake with his only link to the outside world.

Along the scheme Snake meets surfers (Peter Fonda), the Surgeon General of Beverly Hills (Bruce Campbell in a hilarious role that truly is the highlight of the movie) in pursuit of the map. Oh and once again Snake has one of those vast digital watches attached to his wrist to remind him his days are numbered if he doesn’t regain the scheme benefit in time. Filled with astronomical cameos by Steve Buscemi (as Device to the Stars Eddie), B-movie queen Pam Grier (as Hershe Las Palmas), Italian beauty Valerie Golino, the tedious Paul Bartel, Issac Hayes (in a cameo) and Robert Carradine “Run from L.A.” fair might be Carpenter’s most undervalued film (along with the tremendous satire “They Live”) .

The weakest link in the film turns out to be the uneven visual effects done by Disney’s Buena Vista Visual Effects. Some of the opticals seek grand particularly the scenes where Los Angeles gets hit by the 9.6 earthquake. The sequences challenging the mini-sub and some of the helicopters discover as if they were taken from computer games. While computer graphics were unexcited developing at the time, I’m surprised that Disney’s effects house wasn’t able to near up with more convincing visuals for this sequence. Unexcited, while they aren’t what they could be they’re not the focus of the narrative either and are a comely minor pickle. Many of the best effects work quite well. The production earn by Lawrence G. Paull (”Blade Runner”, “Help to the Future”, “Predator 2″) gives the film a noteworthy bigger witness than the budget the film had (it cost roughly $50 million to originate including the marketing piece of the budget) . A bit of trivia about the film. Russell appears wearing the same costume he had for the first film at the beginning. Russell also made all the basketball shots seen in the climatic game himself.

Presented in its novel widescreen format with a trailer as the only extra, this was released when Paramount was playing find up in releasing product for the DVD market. The image quality is exceptionally friendly with gigantic color reproduction and a nearly flawless print (particularly when compared to the remastered re-release of “Run from Modern York”) with a nice 5.1 sound mix.

It’s too dreadful this hasn’t been reissued with extras (such as a commentary from Carpenter and Russell and one or two featurettes. Heck, there’s got to be a promo fragment somewhere in Paramount’s vault about this as I seem to remember one being released to promote it) because, while isn’t quite up to “Run from Unusual York”, “Race from L.A.” is serene a memorable sequel with enough satire, parody and humor laced moments to hold fans of the current elated. Hopefully one of these days this minor Carpenter classic will gain the re-evaluation it deserves.

When I first saw this film in the theaters, I really didn’t like it. In fact, I was handsome let down! I had grown up with Run From Unusual York, and to my awe, John Carpenter remade his absorb film! I’m not kidding, REMADE it. Proper down to Snake getting shot in the leg and limping for the last half of the film. Years later I revaluated my idea. You can’t compose a film as corny as this on accident, especially if you’re a aged director like John Carpenter; It had to be done on purpose. I’ve read numerous interviews over the years and have found out two things, and I consider these two things are the reason this film ended up the plot it did. First, John Carpenter hates sequels. He never wanted to accomplish sequels to his films. He never wanted a sequel to Halloween(let alone six! That’s why he produced Halloween 3 which people hated so powerful, coz he was trying to select this series in a different direction and not retread the whole Michael Myers thing) . I also understand that both Carpenter and Kurt Russell were under alot of studio pressure to get this film. I don’t know what kind of favor Carpenter owed the studio, but he made this film. And my theory is that he made this film intentionally terrible to say to the studio, “There, I made the stinking sequel you wanted, don’t ask me to do it again!” I mean really, if he had wanted to compose a sequel to Flee From Modern York, don’t you deem he would have struck while the iron was hot and made it at the height of the first film’s success instead of waiting 15 years? Deem about it. When I assume this scenario, I can study Flee From L.A and have a profitable laugh thinking that John Carpenter may have played a spacious joke on the Hollywood studios. Really, there’s no method Carpenter included that surfing scene with the procedure of it being taken seriously. The film is unbiased diagram too overblown, draw too cheesy and obviously a carbon copy of the unusual to be anything other than a joke. Kurt may be older now, but he’s actually detached able to play Snake Plissken like it’s 1980. The performance is vast, it’s fair the film surrounding Kurt that’s comic. Try watching it again and behold what you deem.

Zorro, a half-hour Walt Disney Productions TV series based on the celebrated Zorro character, premiered October 10, 1957 on ABC. The final network broadcast was June 2, 1959. Seventy-eight episodes were produced, and 4 hour-long specials were aired on the Walt Disney anthology series between October 30, 1960 and April 2, 1961. Don Diego de la Vega (portrayed by Guy Williams) is depicted as a weak University student, newly recalled by his father from Spain to his home outside El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora Reina de los Ángeles sobre El Rio Porciuncula (later shortened as Los Angeles) . Unprejudiced before reaching California, Diego learns of the tyranny of Captain Monastario, and realizes that his father, Don Alejandro, summoned him to aid fight this injustice. Although he won medals for his fencing attend in Spain, Diego decides that his best course of action is to screen his ability with a sword, and to affect the demeanor of a milquetoast shimmering rather than a decisive man of action. His alter ego, Zorro, operates primarily at night, taking the philosophize action that Diego cannot. This deception does not always sit well with Diego, especially as it affects his relationship with his disappointed father. In reality, Diego relies heavily on his wits, both with and without the screen on. Later in the series, Diego emerges as a respected figure in his bear lawful, a clever thinker and steady friend who fair happens to be hopeless at swordplay. The character’s name in Johnston McCulley’s writing and previous adaptations was Diego Vega; the Disney version expands the name to Diego de la Vega, an innovation retained in some subsequent versions of the record. Diego’s singing direct is supplied by Bill Lee of the Mellomen. For most of its brief accelerate, Zorro’s episodes were portion of continuing epic arcs, each about thirteen episodes long. The first of these chronicles the arrival of Zorro / Diego and his battle of wits with the greedy and cruel local Commandante, Captain Monastario. After Monastario’s final defeat, in the second storyline, Zorro must tell and counter the machinations of the unfavorable Magistrado Galindo, who is fraction of a location to rule California. The third memoir arc concerns the leader of that conspiracy, the sunless figure of the Eagle, revealed as vain and frightened José Sebastian Varga. Season one concludes with Varga’s death.

Season two opens with Diego in Monterey, the colonial capital, where privately mild money to bring a supply ship to California is consistently diverted to a gang of bandits. Diego stays to investigate, both as himself and as Zorro, and becomes involved in Ana Maria Verdugo, the daughter of the man organizing the grief. Once Zorro defeats the thieves, he enters into a rivalry with his used friend Ricardo del Amo, a practical joker who is also enthusiastic in Ana Maria. Ana Maria in turn is in care for with Zorro. While in Monterey, Zorro and Sergeant Garcia also pick up eager in a advise between the peons and a repressive Lieutenant Governor. Diego is on the verge of giving up his cover to marry Ana Maria, but Don Alejandro talks him out of it. Zorro (and Diego) says goodbye to Ana Maria and returns to Los Angeles, where he gets fervent in a series of shorter adventures. In one three episode narrative arc, guest starring Annette Funicello, Zorro must solve the mystery of Anita Campillo’s father, a man who does not seem to exist. Other storylines slow in the series involve Diego’s ne’er-do-well uncle (Cesar Romero), a place against the governor of California, an encounter with an American “mountain man” (Jeff York, reprising a role from The Saga of Andy Burnett), and outwitting a greedy emissary from Spain.

The Complete First Season is the definitive version that Disney Zorro fans have waited years for. Covering all 39 episodes that comprise season #1 (1957-1958), this shrimp edition (and numbered) 6-disc residence of 30,000 includes a Certificate of Authenticity, a collectible pin (showing two crossed silver swords with Zorro’s conceal superimposed on top), as well as a black-and-white photo postcard showing Guy Williams in character as Don Diego. A booklet outlining the contents of the station can also be found here. The spot comes handsomely encased in a dusky metal tin, fitting of this B&W series where the hero wears an all-black costume.

A 5:21 intro by Leonard Maltin introduces the episodes and gives a brief history of Zorro and these particular episodes along with the extras on these discs. The remastering is evident on these episodes. The portray is certain and so is the sound; naturally, with the diagram it was originally recording, a digital surround experience is not possible, but the Dolby Digital recording is crisp, certain, and the accept sounds better than it has in years. And no…there are no colorized versions here. Fair the excellent shaded and white originals. The comedy, action, drama, and music combination that one expects from a Walt Disney production is all here, completed with a stellar cast. Guy Williams, Gene Sheldon, and Henry Calvin have wonderful chemistry. Williams’ hero Zorro, who is a “bookish” Don Diego by day, becomes the black-caped & masked account who rights wrongs in his “off hours.”

Besides the 39 episodes (starting with “Presenting Señor Zorro”, new air date of 10/10/1957 and finishing with #39 “The Eagle’s Flight”, unusual air date of 7/3/1958), there is a 6th disc of bonus material. Here you will accept 2 hour long episodes:

1. “Zorro: El Bandido,” fresh air date of 10/30/1960, from Walt’s anthology TV series “Walt Disney Presents.” Clocking in at 51:10, this episode features Gilbert Roland & Rita Moreno, not long before her breakthrough role in “West Side Narrative.”

2. “Zorro: Adios El Cuchillo,” new air date of 11/6/1960, from Walt’s anthology TV series “Walt Disney Presents.” This episode is 49:00 long and again stars Roland & Moreno.

An excerpt (3:17) is included here from “The Fourth Anniversary Note,” which originally aired on 9/11/1957. Walt is surrounded by the Mouseketeers who anxiously want to hear more about Zorro. Walt finally relents, and the opening from the note rolls out. There is an “interaction” between the two sets, where Zorro talks to the Mouseketeers and then engages in a sword fight shown only in shadow (very effective!) .

There is also a featurette entitled, “The Life and Epic of Zorro” (12:26) detailing the history of Zorro. Starting with the publication of Johnston McCulley’s myth in a pulp fiction magazine titled All-Story Magazine, “The Curse of Capistrano” came out in 1919. Swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks Sr. was the first to play Zorro in the movies (1920), followed by Tyrone Power over at 20th Century Fox in 1940. Disney purchased the rights to the property in 1952, but didn’t glean around to right production until 1957. This marked the first time that a standing state was built on the Disney lot in Burbank at a cost of $500,000. Disney worked closely on this explain to form everything authentic, and made certain it was helmed by a quality team. Each episode cost $78,000 to film and was shot on a 5-day schedule, which was very lavish for the day. Each installment also had new music and scoring written by William Lava. Today, the quality unruffled shows and has paid off handsomely for the studio from its continued fanbase over the past 50 years. The documentary has many technicolor images of Guy Williams and the Zorro cast, along with interviews of Williams’ son. Factual battles between ABC and Disney delayed Season 3, which resulted in a few hour-long episodes. It is ironic that one of the top rated shows (garnering an unheard of 40% audience fraction in season 2) was killed not by the ratings but by legalities and quibbling.

This is a sure-fire site that will please obsolete and original fans of this quality program.

I was interested to check this movie out because I really liked the docudrama “A Haunting in Connecticut” which was fraction of a series titled “Haunting” by the Discovery Channel. This movie was supposedly inspired by those correct events. In the docudrama, Karen and Ed Parker and their family fade into an dilapidated home in Connecticut, not realising the house harbors entities that are far from benign. The most affected is the couple’s 14-year-old son, Paul, who seems to be most susceptible to the hauntings. In desperation, the family contacts Edward and Lorraine Warren, the same people who investigated another famed timorous house that became known as “The Amityville Alarm”.

In the movie version, the yarn remains suitable to the new to some extent. Virginia Madsen plays Sara Campbell, whose teenage son Matt [Kyle Gallner] is suffering from some produce of brain cancer. The treatment requires them to form a long commute and to chop on the proceed time, Sara decides to lease a house terminate by to the hospital. She finds an aged house for cheap [the family already has money problems] and finds out it veteran to encourage a darker purpose than a place. The family moves in anyway, and straight away Matt begins seeing things and hearing noises. He moves into the basement which has a sealed off room. Upon finally opening it, Matt discovers what the house mature to be – a mortuary and funeral home. Soon, the rest of the family begins to leer and hear irregular things and Matt together with Wendy [Amanda Crew] investigate the history of the house, discovering some truly horrific facts about the house’s sunless past, having to do with death, necrophilia, missing bodies and a horrific tragedy.

The movie is actually well-paced – I did not get the lag plodding nor tiring,. There is no gore or over-the-top special effects here. In many ways, this movie reminded me of The Amityville Dismay II with the son of the house being the focus of the hauntings. Some scenes were scary, especially the flashbacks to the past titillating incidents of necrophilia. The acting was ok, not mountainous, but Kyle Gallner was quite credible in his role.

What disappointed me was the omission of two central characters in the movie – they did not include the Warrens in the movie, who played a primary role in the right case. Instead, the movie shows a priest, Reverend Popescu [Elias Koteas] as the person the family turns to for serve. His acting was not very impressive in this movie. Once again, I felt the priest role here was reminiscent of the one portrayed in The Amityville Dread.

Conclusion – for those who esteem the awe genre, this movie does not really bring anything modern to the table. The acting and effects are decent enough, and I did accumulate myself entertained. Recommended as a rental.

***May Believe Spoilers***

This movie felt unbelievably flat. Not enough to design us care about Matt. I wanted to know Jonah (the dude on the cloak with ectoplasm streaming from his mouth) . All I got was flashes of “scary” images with a promise of better things. What’s mammoth about scary movies regarding ghosts from the past isn’t the paranormal, but rather the history. Give us more of the memento mori, more flashbacks of Jonah contacting spirits. It was never explained why the mortician extinct voodoo and murky magic. I would steal to originate more money by having more ghosts around, but wasn’t Jonah a suitable median anyway? He didn’t need extra ghosts to give the clients what they needed. I felt totally cheated when it came to Jonah. The most attractive parts of the film were flashbacks to his life. He looked so horrified and confused. I would have grand rather watched him deal with his gift and his oppressor than peep Matt and his one-dimensional family interact.

Worth watching? Yeah. Definite. Rent it, though.

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), dilapidated Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me shout.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Up! Click Here

I plan it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a disquieted young boy star-struck by a famed explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become posthaste friends, and roar to one day disappear to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they occupy their dream home and fix it up, hoping to occupy it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through aged age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a overjoyed marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s wound when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.

When developers end in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and recede to Paradise Falls. A passe balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of incandescent balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a pudgy, valiant kid trying to catch a scouting badge.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Up! Click Here

After landing in Paradise Falls, the ragged man and the small boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a substantial rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of terminate calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.

In the process, Carl learns to let go of his dim mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by fair hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole novel world.

Up is a deeply emotional film, paunchy of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Secure another triumph for Pixar.

Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to execute an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster challenging movie. But in the meantime, they’re unexcited putting out exquisite provocative movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety passe man. It’s a charming, fun minute adventure sage with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet slight narrative about loss and esteem.

As a child, the horrified Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared worship of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, travel into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.

Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a steady estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an involved, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the lunge. Awful kid was unprejudiced trying to net an “assisting the elderly” badge.

And the jungle lumber to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a vast emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious passe man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the outmoded guy is very familiar to Carl — and to lift Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as accepted as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty ancient coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can be pleased Carl’s adore for his lost wife, and his expressionless realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they note all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing musty together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy near to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of enormous dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Recognize Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Wintry! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an conventional airship.

Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and sure to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is certain to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special inspect. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I treasure you”) and act the device dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to catch shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of uncommon stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable bright shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to direct potentially imperfect baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously spicy, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can devour. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

The following is a review of the movie, and I will be updating the review of the DVD (which I have pre-ordered) once I receive it:

I loved the book. There are various elements and fable arcs running through the book that I could not benefit but wonder how the director [David Yates] was going to pull it off. Well, the movie is definitely grand more subdued than its predecessors, both in the effects, the violence, the spend of witchcraft, even the color palette is muted for most of the movie, conveying a sense of menace and possible doom in the confrontation between great and spoiled.

As an ardent fan of the books, and also the movies, I found this particular installment a tad underwhelming. Firstly, I was shocked that the scriptwriters felt they had to include unnecessary scenes that were not even in the book [the waitress and Harry making a date at the beginning, the burning down of the Burrow, etc]. Instead, they left out bits that were actually in the books. Even crucial epic arcs, like the consume of the Pensieve is not given enough veil time, and seems almost rushed.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! Click Here

One of the enduring appeal of the movie franchise lies in its sense of wonder, and being able to transport viewers into a magical realm, where the horrible forces under the tutelage of the sunless lord Voldemort try to vanquish the forces of beneficial as portrayed by Harry Potter, the Chosen One and also the Order of the Phoenix. In this latest movie installment, I felt that the element of wonder was lacking. Great of what is portrayed is presented as it is, and if this was watched by someone original to the world of Harry Potter, the person would be bewildered and lost. At least in the other installments, especially in the first four, a lot of background information is provided [so that even my husband, who has not read any books in the series was able to follow the story]. For example, there is no hint whatsoever as to why Bellatrix Lestrange has such a venomous hatred of Harry, nor why Harry is crooked on going after her [and I'm not saying why here either, for the sake of HP virgins].

I guess section of the spot is that HP & the Half-Blood Prince provides the catalyst for the events that are to transpire in the last book, Deathly Hallows, and the movie version is to be played out in two parts. So, understandably, a lot of ground work is laid out here, resulting in a dialogue heavy movie, and less than spectacular special effects [the Quidditch scene was completely underwhelming in my opinion]. The main characters, such as Harry [Daniel Radcliffe], Hermione [Emma Watson], and Ron [Rupert Grint] are also facing some serious hormone issues and relationship problems, hence the rather subdued tone. Gone are the days of easy bantering and camaraderie…the dynamics between the three have shifted to one of awkward uneasiness, as Ron and Hermione try to reach to terms with the changes in their friendship, and Harry deals with his strong attraction to Ginny Weasley. In this, I felt the actors did a enormous job – the three have arrive a long contrivance from their first year at Hogwarts, and have truly embraced these roles, portraying them with depth and insight.

Draco Malfoy’s role as portrayed by Tom Felton, finally gets more visibility. Draco is no longer merely glowering all the time, but deals with some genuine problems that may cost him his very soul, and Felton did a credible job portraying his inner conflict. Michael Gambon is qualified as Dumbledore, relying more heavily on Harry in this account, as he tries desperately to expose Potions Professor Slughorn’s [Jim Broadbent]one crucial memory concerning Tom Riddle [the Gloomy Lord] that may befriend in their fight against the Black Lord.

The others such as Severus Snape [Alan Rickman], Minerva McGonagall [Maggie Smith],& Hagrid [Robbie Coltrane] have less visibility this time around. It really does focus on a impartial a few central characters, though Snape does play an considerable role here [just that he doesn't win as worthy veil time as I would have liked]. With regards to Snape, I have to say I’m a mammoth fan of Alan Rickman’s acting – he brings ample depth to the portrayal of the Hogwarts teacher, eliciting reactions that vary from disgust to infuriate and even sympathy through the course of the six installments. He impresses even in minor scenes. I do examine forward to more of Snape in the last two installments as his role is pivotal to the series! As for the stern but kind-hearted Prof McGonagall, I have read some reports as to Dame Maggie Smith’s ill health and pray that she is well enough to complete the last two movies, as I simply cannot imagine any other actress in her role.

All in all, it is tranquil an interesting yarn, and I have pre-ordered the DVD. The reason I only gave it three stars is because it did not quit as faithful to the book as I would have liked, and lacked the stout tremendous sense of wonder & magic I’ve approach to associate with the series. This has been the darkest installment in the series thus far – so I can understand the depressing tone underlying the movie, yet, I quiet feel the director could have faded better colors and lightened up some aspects of the movie where appropriate. Btw, I found the gain completely underwhelming, and I really miss the fantastic salvage that was in the earlier movies [except Section 5]. Here’s hoping Deathly Hallows Fragment I and II will fare better [also directed by David Yates].

My main gripe with the previous Harry Potter movie “Order of the Phoenix” was that for some irregular reason they took the longest of the books and turned it into the shortest Harry Potter movie to date. The result was that I felt like I was watching the movie cruise by on a speeding articulate, as it rushed from one key event to another without really taking the time to discover anything in detail.

Now we follow up with “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” and….what a inequity. There are plenty of cuts of course, no Harry Potter movie can be free of cuts without being waaaay too long. But the movie’s length was at least comparable to some of the others. The 3 lead characters were as location on as ever. Michael Gambon finally brings a bit more warmth to his portrayal of Albus Dumbledor than he brought to the last few movies. Tom Felton played Draco Malfoy with all the depth one would hope for in his most famous role in the series. Alan Rickman isn’t seen too great as Severus Snape, but when he is he’s as unbelievable as ever.

I really believe this may be the best Harry Potter film yet, and I was really starting to mediate after the last film that the legend had gotten to gigantic for them to manage in film. Top-notch work guys.

I grew up in the 1970’s and was a complete monster movie fan (I lived for Double Chiller Theatre on late-night TV every Friday!) –but I knew to wait until I got older to peek THE EXORCIST. Listening to how the adults reacted to it, that creepy music, the ominous poster–I fair knew to support sure.

When I eventually saw it, I realized that this was the best awe film ever made.

That THE EXORCIST was left off the American Film Institute’s “100 Greatest Films of All-Time” is an omission that casts doubt on the entire list.

This is one of those classic films where EVERYTHING works: the writing, the directing, the acting, etc. The extras on the DVD are extensive and racy (you can command both William Friedkin and William Peter Blatty cared about every second of this film) .

Most titanic fear films will have you turning on lights and peeking around corners, but THE EXORCIST will perform you troubled to halt your eyes.

For those of you that like The Exorcist and wondered if you should have seen the movie in the theaters *just* becuase it has some current scenes I can insist you it’s definataly worth it.

The added scenes improve the continuity for the most fragment and provide a few recent shocks (as if this movie needed more) .

The soundtrack is radically reworked as well, employing newly scored music that adds to the mood of the movie.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Exorcist! Click Here

There are modern sound effects that have more “oomph” for the unusual six channel digital sound.

Have the 25′th Anniversary tape? Saw the Spider bolt scene in the Documentary? Well, in the modern release, it’s a different version and 10 times more creepy (it took a tiny for the audience I was with to peaceful down) .

It was enormous to scrutinize this in a theater and sight people jaded by cookie cutter slasher flicks acknowledge to this movie so well. This movie is not rapidly paced and that allows it to fabricate up a foundation of panic and scare about the developing possession of the girl. Until it finally unleashes in the more horrifying scenes you’ve all heard about.

The overall color contrivance of the movie is grayish and colorless, further drawing you into that horror and horror. The background music (the unique and the slight amount utilized in the novel version) has very runt melody with a lot of sustained uncouth chords. It doesn’t call attention to itself but does unnerve you.

The possessed girl is probabaly one of the scariest faces in movie history. It’s amazing that all that was really done to Linda Blair’s face was to add a few asymetrical cuts, shroud over her eyebrows and darken her sockets (giving her eyes a skull like explore) . But of course, it was the makeup master Dick Smith that was doing it so it’s not too remarkable of a surprise. The crowning feature of the scariest face was the unhuman study of the eyes, done with contact lenses.

The upcoming DVD of the “version you never saw” deserves a dwelling in my colection and yours.

Besides a faithful transfer of the original version to DVD and the trailer, I can suggest that Warner Bros. include the tour of Washington sequence. This is another sequence that was not primitive in the final sever. It serene exists but with no soundtrack. Putting it on the extras piece of the DVD with an explanation of the missing soundtrack and subtitles would build this DVD an even better recall for fans of the movie (like myself) .

I only discovered this movie about four years ago but have watched it every Christmas since. To me it’s the best version of the Christmas Carol ever made, and now it gets the best treatment you could have ever hoped for. This two disc collector’s edition contains two different versions of this movie. First is the colorized version, but then the second is the sincere treat. They went relieve to the fresh prints of this and worked from there. After carefully removing the skips, scratches, and jerky frames, they digitally restored the movie to a version that looks as if it were made yesterday! The sound has been changed to 5.1 digital surround, and there’s even a widescreen version for 16:9 televisions.

The special features include an earlier version of Christmas Carol (not as superior as this one), as well as several featurettes on the movie, interviews with the stars, a feature on Alistair Sim, and others.

You can divulge the distributor place a lot of inconvenience into this restoration and it shows. I wish they’d do the same for other grand films like “It’s a Improbable Life” and “The Bishop’s Wife”.

Highly recommended as the best version of this classic you’ll accept anywhere.

Although this 1951 classic film takes some liberties with the Dicken’s new, it remains the film most faithful to the recent record. Some of the sets and costumes were directly inspired by the memorable illustrations in the first edition of the book. Alastair Sim is very convincing as the miserly Scrooge who, after a plain night of ghostly visits, is transformed into a man who knows how to maintain Christmas in his heart.

There have been many DVD editions of this holiday celebrated in modern years, several of them from VCI Entertainment. In this package, VCI has included some things featured on previous releases (commentary, Dickens biography, etc.), but the precise star of this region is the beautifully restored version of the dusky and white film. According to a short feature on the restoration of the film, VCI has finally been able to get film elements from the novel master. Apparently they didn’t have access to a complete master, so they frail several of the best prints they could come by and digitally read them to settle which frames were the best available. The rest was cleaned up by hand. It sounds like a labor of like, and the result is visible on the veil. The restored print is available in 4×3 and 16×9 in 1:37:1 format. (According to the Amazon product description page, the aspect ratio is given as 1:87 and elsewhere as 1:33, the DVD box says 1:37.) There are a few seconds of less than pristine audio, but overall this is a blooming grief.

A nice touch I’ve never seen on a DVD before is an optional audio track for the blind, in which a narrator describes the action on the veil pausing for dialog from the actors. A wandering commentary track with Marcus Heard and George Cole (young Scrooge) is included. Distinguished of the commentary is reprised in a feature interview by Heard in which Cole reminisces about Alastair Sim, “Spirit of Christmas Past.” The audio is in English only. Subtitles are in English or Spanish.

The second disc offers the new 1935 Seymour Hicks’ film version of the myth. A colorized version of the 1951 film is also included on Disc 2; the brief introduction by Patrick McNee (young Marley) has been seen before on previous releases of the colorized version. There are also theatrical trailers from the UK release (”Scrooge”) and the US release (”A Christmas Carol”) .

VCI has given us a splendid package here. They’ve done a spacious job with the restoration of a film savor. Many viewers will never have seen such a top-notch print of this holiday popular before. The bonus features are a nice inclusion, but the restoration is the sincere reason to win this edition. Highly recommended!

My son had a speech delay and other developmental delays. His speech is astronomical now…no one can detect that he has this diagnosis. However, the delays have, understandably, affected his learning in some areas.

While his spatial skills have been device above average–as has his pick of science (such as planets and their attributes) –he has resisted reading. He gets tired and frustrated.

Well, trying many approaches for helping him, I concept I’d select a chance and earn the Talking Words Factory from Amazon.com, especially since the reviews were so advantageous.

I am very, very gay with this DVD! My son watches it quite often, and he’s now reading books on his possess. I can stare a marked dissimilarity in a matter of WEEKS. Before, he had to contemplate about how some of the letters sounded. Now, he rattles them off like a pro–as well as 3-letter words!

This DVD also teaches about vowels and consonants, so he’s learning how the vowels are sticky like glue, holding words together (thanks to Professor Quigley’s Sticky-Ick-O-Rama machine!) . The Word Whammer machine shows children how to set the consonants and vowels together, and how they sound. I like the fact that they’ll switch around the vowels with the same beginning and ending consonants, to highlight how a vowel sounds within a word.

Talking Words Factory also teaches rhyming, which is a bonus.

Highly recommended!

I have never felt strong enough to actually win the time to write a review. I am a certified k-6 teacher who has told everyone I know about Leap Frog’s 4 fabulous movie and now I am telling you…

LF Letter Factory: This was the first (out of 4) Leap Frog Movie that my children watched. My 3 1/2 year extinct and 2 years 2 month faded boys are allowed to see 1 movie a day. Each Day they agreed, in excitement, to watched this movie. Under a week my 3 1/2 year outmoded knew his letter sounds. He could snort the letter sound song almost as quickly as he could convey the alphabet. After a week, he amazed us when he sat down on the ground and wrote out the entire alphabet like a 4th grader. Had NO belief he could write like this! Shortly thereafter, the 2 year feeble knew all his letter sounds and letter recognition.

Talking Words Factory: I was so impressed that I bought them the Talking Words Factory that 2nd week. I wasn’t surprised that my 3 1/2 year dilapidated began to spell, writing, and sounding out 3 letter words. He told me all about how the vowels were all sticky and their job was to stick letters together to build words. He went around singing the vowel song.

My kids loved the videos so great that for 10 months…My son’s (who obsolete to play with Thomas the Trains and puppies) were obsessed with letters and words. They made their gain letter and word factory machines out of their toys and tubs, drew each letter cartoon character, and sang the letter and vowel songs, and the older one wrote, yes wrote, many of his contain homemade books.

Talking Word Factory 2: It doesn’t halt there…They got the Talking Word Factory 2 and Math Circus when they came out this Christmas. In a couple of days, the now 4 year primitive, was telling me all about sh, ch, th, and other blends. He told me how the peaceful e at the raze of the word made the other vowel say its name (long vowel sound) . He went on to deny me also how “when 2 vowels go walking the first one does the talking.” And he wrote and read recent complex words such as, boat, home, dime, wait, etc. This really increased his ability to read many, many original words – 8 letter words too!

Math Circus: They loved it too! Though it is hastily spirited for beginners, it is fascinating and has an easy belief. Adding and subtracting now comes fair easy for my 4 year obsolete. I gave him a math work sheet for addition and subtraction fair for kicks. Wouldn’t you know it, he did all of them with no dilemma. He was so enthusiastic in adding that he started asking about problems such as 3 + 3 + 3. Which helped him learn the idea of multiplication 3 x 3, 3 x 4, etc. But, we told him that he had plenty of time to learn that later!

The only negative comments that I have to say about these Leap Frog videos: Nothing, Oh, except that I wish my children weren’t so obsessed with letters! They eat, breath, and sleep letters. Sometimes I unprejudiced wish they would play with the trains, cars, and other toys. They will have their entire school life to learn about letters and reading! I unprejudiced hope that when the time comes for school that they won’t have grown board of it!

Other Leap Frog learning tools that reinforce what they learned on the videos:

LF Fridge Phonics Magnets – Adore it. It sings each letters song when you achieve the letter in the hole.

LF Word Whammer Fridge Phonics Position – LF unprejudiced came out with this. I know that they will savor. I bought it for the next birthday! It is like the Fridge Phonics, but you can spell 3 letter words.

LF Letter Factory Board Game – Worship it too! It is interactive and the board game talks and sings!

LF Content Along Letters Flash Cards & CD – Songs from the DVDs. Not that you don’t hear the songs sang enough from your children!

Wish they would design computer CD’s too!

LF Leap Pad – Fun but they got board with the same books over & over. $14 a book!

There are many others, but I had to procedure the line somewhere!

If you check all the other reviews, I am not alone. Only two out of 121 people gave this movie less than 5 stars! It is about time someone made a movie that parents and children both agree on! Thank you Leap Frog!
